Designed from the inside out? is how Toyota describes its new Auris space concept, revealed for the first time at the Paris Motor Show. This world debut signals a new interpretation of the core Toyota design philosophy of Vibrant Clarity, combining a forward-looking and energetic appearance with a clear and rational approach to providing driver and passengers with a spacious and highly practical environment.

Wahei Hirai, Toyota Global Design Managing Officer explains: ?The Auris space concept is tall and spacious. The high waistline, short overhangs and forward balance of the cabin architecture ensure it retains a sense of dynamism and agility, a quality we call perfect imbalance.?

Auris has a high quality interior, featuring an innovative sculpted, bridged centre console that is both elegant and practical, bringing the gearlever and other controls up to the perfect ergonomic height. This leaves an open section in the lower part of the console that increases the sense of space around the driver and front seat passenger.

The inside-out concept can also be witnessed in the panoramic glass roof, the flat rear passenger floor and high window surfaces, all of which contribute to the overall sense of interior light and space. The exterior is characterised by a powerful front-end treatment with strong vertical lines, wide shoulders and short overhangs, with sports-styled 19-inch alloy wheels, freeform geometric lamps, prominent brake callipers and deep rear bumper with integrated chrome exhausts adding to the dynamic look.

The striking gold exterior paint finish and interior piping reflect the car?s name, aurum being the Latin word for gold. The result is a concept with which Toyota aims to reflect both the shift in values of customers in the C segment and its own optimistic brand attitude.

I like how Toyota are starting to do interesting cars lately. This one looks like a bigger brother to the Yaris but I can't help but think that they'll tone it down before it goes into production.

Still, it's pretty nice! Hopefully it isn't overpriced like the Yaris is compared to it's rivals.

Its the new Corolla, Auris is the new name for it as is going up market against Golfs etc. Japanese market will have the new Auris name and most countries may keep the Corolla badge.
All hatches seem to be more bubble like and tall. Sure safety is a factor but going tall is going the wrong way.

The Corolla is the best selling car in Australia even though it's a boring whitegood. Question is how will this one drive?

I agree, it is nice, specially the interior!
No information about the engine, tough.

So it'll be another perfect commuting car, omg the revolution. I don't give a toss about that, when the hell is Toyota bringing back the MR2? :x

I guess if it was photographed without funky lightning and colours it would look only 3% as interesting...

Awesome! Another practical well-built economical small car that's not coming to America because we're all fat and stupid.

And I agree, when's our damn Mister Two coming back, ya bastards?!

They still can't make an interesting looking Corolla, eh?

its not a corolla....... :p
there going to do what they do in japan in the rest of the world.. and only have the corolla name in the sedan

Here is the production version
http://auris.jugem.jp/

so now .. if anyone from toyota is reading this..
dont make it look like the japanese production version.. its DULL!!
keep it as close to the consept as you can .. i BEG YOU!

Anyway .. looks like its getting a new 1,8 .. with Dual VVT-i and all of 135ps :/
STOP MAKING "-FE" ENGINES AND MAKE "-GE" ENGINES AGAIN!

im a saaaad panda

the lighting makes it look better than it is

what is the reason for the stick being up so high? i know they say its the perfect ergonomic height but does anyone believe that? Also on first look i didnt know that it was a panoramic glass roof (which why would one get on a budget car) but a headliner with no liner, which i though was kinda a cool idea.

It will be fair to drive, beautifully finished, reliable, not as good looking as the concept and a bit boring. Another car whitegood I am afraid - and yes, where is Mister Two????

^If you have driven a Civic you would be surprised how good a high stick is, great for quick changes in the CIVIC Type R.

Oh so it's the next Corolla....

Get rid of that funky metallic paint, those 5-spoke alloy wheels and think of it in base spec form which means NO nice chrome exhausts and NO techno head and tail-lights and there you have it - the 2007 (?) Toyota Corolla in all it's boringness.

Damn I hate concepts

No matter what it's really going to be called, i'm still going to call it the Corolla :p

its better to drive with the stick up there ... just look at rally cars (before the invention of the flappypadles)
