I guess it looks pretty cool... never read or seen the books or movies.

Hate those books. Too popular.

Well there must be something to them considering Rowling has made over a billion USD from them.

Have you read them or are you just staying away because of their popularity? I think the books are great actually, there are few fantasy series that are unique enough to stand out and this is one of them. I like that I read the first book back in 5th grade and the characters age at the same rate the readers do (same age in my case). I've bought the last few and I'm looking forward to this one.

The books are alright, ive read all of them, JK has clearly changed the writing to suit a much older target audience than the first couple books after they started becoming popular with a much wider audience.

Frankly i thought the storyline of the later books felt too influenced by market pressures, the film industries and other outside influences.

Imagine those great sci-fi or fantasy book series that were completely written from start to finish years before they were optioned for any kind of film adaptation. Theres usually a consistency in content/tone throughout and the author wrote however the author pleased.

But now since pretty much the entire series was optioned for film before the 4th book was released, ive noticed reading the newer ones that the plots seem to be purpose written for easier conversion into screenplays.

Maybe its my imagination, i dont know.

If I'm not mistaken, Rowling has no say in what ends up in the movies and what doesn't. I haven't seen all the movies, but there are things in the books that don't make it to the screen. For one thing, fitting a 700+ page book into a movie means that there have to be parts left out.

You know, I said the same thing. Too popular, too genre specific. But if you read them, you get pulled into this really interesting world that, like Star Wars, is described in vast detail.

Cant wait for the last book, too many unanswered questions!

oh boy oh boy i cannot wait... my preorder is already in with amazon

and boy does the UK kids cover look way way cooler than the US version...

You misunderstand what i am saying.

I'm NOT saying she writes a 700 page 'ready-to-adapt-to-screen' screeplay in book form.

Im NOT saying she has the final say what is imported from book source to screen.

What i am saying is that the first few books really felt like fantasy books while the later ones, honestly, felt like book adaptations of movies....in greater detail befitting a 700 page book of course. Now the advantage of this is they can be more easily made into movies, but at the same time, i can't help feel sad how the blatant commercialism is affecting the content of the books. Oh well, its not like the Harry Potter series had any pretense of being high brow literature.

Ah I get what you're saying. I don't think Rowling would have ever dreamt of the success she is having. Though I don't agree with you on the commercialism aspect, I do think that she doesn't want to disappoint the millions of readers while appealing to a larger crowd. The fifth book for example was a bit weak compared to the rest in terms of writing and storyline but was probably the easiest to read and get into. The first three introduced us to this magical world and the fourth showed that it wasn't all fun and games. The sixth was the darkest and is leading to end of it all.

looking at the "adults" version, symbol kinda looks heroes-ish.

ditto... it's annoyingly popular, but it is legitimately good.

I'll be honest, I really enjoy the movies....and I'll be in the theater opening night for "Order of the Phoenix"

And it's not just because I find Hermione hot.

What's so different about the adult version? Are there more swears and sex scenes or something? :p

he's one of those people who has to hate everything that is/becomes popular.

The US version actually looks appropriate, the UK version looks more like "Harry Potter and the Magic Mushrooms"
