Oh God, my parents had some automotive attrocities, land-yachts from the 1970s malaise era. I will update with more details and pics later, but lowlights include:
- 74 Chevrolet Impala -- the car I learned on, and the closest thing to a cool car my family ever owned. Unfortunately it was on its death bed by the time I got to drive it.
- 76(?) Ford Maverick Grabber -- green with white racing stripes. At the time I thought it was radical and cool, and I do remember saying "I'm going to have a car like that when I grow up." It wasn't with us long, my father set it on fire within a year.
- A parade of 1970s/1980s Ford LTD II station wagons. Green with fake wood paneling.
- 79 Chrysler New Yorker. Miles of car and non-working electronics.
- 84 Lincoln Town Car. Miles of barge, suspension made from superballs, steering feel of a quadrapalegic.
An awful lot of aircraft carriers there. <shudders>
In my parents' old age it's been a parade of anonymous GM cars that are all the boxy Caprice, and a string of Ford Taurii. I was the first one to buy an import (85 Isuzu I-Mark) about 1/2 the size and 1/3 the weight of that New Yorker.
