The Buick Invicta Concept ? which is expected to preview the next-generation 2010 LaCrosse ? won't debut for another week or so, but our spy photographers have manged to get a sneak peek of the production car's interior.

The spy shots reveal a rather handsome interior that looks more Cadillac than Buick. The prototype's gauge cluster looks like it will have a pod setup and it looks like the LaCrosse will sport a steering wheel very similar to the one found in the Pontiac G8.

It's not known if the production car will be named LaCrosse or Invicta, which is Latin for "invincible" ? a name used by Buick decades ago.

Buick is clearly stepping up its game when it comes to exterior design ? and we hope driving dynamics and interior quality will be equally improved.

Buick has relocated its signature portholes from the front fender to the hood ? a seemingly more functional location. Most of the other details follow Buick's latest design language, including the 'waterfall' grille and smooth sculpted surfaces.

Codenamed GMX353, the new LaCrosse will be the first car in the United States to ride on the new global front-wheel drive Epsilon II platform.

According to our sources, the new Buick will be assembled at GM's Fairfax facility starting in February of 2009. The LaCrosse should hit dealer showrooms in mid-2009 as a 2010 model. LaCrosse annual production is expected to be in the 65,000 to 75,000 range.

Looks promising. Apparently it will be riding on the Epsilon II platform, unlike the stretched Epsilon I that currently underpins the Malibu. It will be the first or second vehicle in the US to use the platform and it will be used in the following:

Epsilon II

A new version of the Epsilon, dubbed Epsilon II, will debut in 2008. It will be adaptable for front and all-wheel drive applications.

Concept vehicles built on Epsilon II:

* 2007 Opel GTC

The Epsilon II will be used in the following vehicles:

* 2008 Opel Insignia
* 2009 Saab 9-5
* 2010 Buick LaCrosse
* 2011 Saturn Aura
* 2011 Pontiac G6
* 2010 Saab 9-3
* 2012 Chevy Malibu

I positively hate "artists' renderings". They always show what a car should look like and then we clash with an awful reality once it rolls off the production line. The interior seems pleasant enough though from what little one can actually see.

The thing with the renderings is that they usually show darker shadows than you would find in real life, accenting design features that may be present in the actual model but won't show up as well when you see the car in person.

That looks like a facelifted Acura RL with a different grille. Does Buick offer anything interesting at all?

I would say this vehicle is fairly interesting.

As I understand it, the styling was done or was done with help from GM Shanghi who've done the rather good looking Chinese Buick's. Shame it's still something I wouldn't want to drive. I hold out hope that a RWD Park Avenue will make its way over here to replace the horrid Lucerne.

An American car that wants to be Japanese? It's supposed to be the other way 'round, they copy US/European styling.

Buick have gone completely off their rocker.

All you have seen is pre production test models with cammo.

way over here to replace the horrid Lucerne.

From most accounts it is not a terrible vehicle.

^ Do you have a personality bypass? All you seem to do is follow GM blindly and spit out some rhetoric against those who don't.

I only speak the truth and my comments were not rhetoric. Indeed, all you have seen is a pre production test model with cammo and from what I have read the Lucerne is not a bad vehicle. You are free to research if you wish.

Lighten up a bit.

I don't like people who bitch quite a bit.

^ You do your share of whining, about my post for instance. People disagree with you, let it go.

Not all of your facts are truth, as you claim. You think the Lucerne is a good car because you're a GM fanboy. The rest of the world who enjoy good cars don't seem so enthused about it.

Never said it was good, just not terrible. I am aware that it is primitive compared to the competition but as a highway cruiser it is not bad.

I have a feeling this car will be seriously nice, if It's RWD

those gauges/the dashboard look great, as well as the wheels, the exhaust tips and of course the rendering

Not bad at all from what can be seen... though that satnav screen looks a little in the large side.

Does anyone else find it surprising that they're not just using the zeta platform which already has all the engineering done for a luxo version.

Good luck, the only RWD Buick is the Chinese PA, and that is simply a rebadge Holden Statesman (right HH?).

This vehicle is not in that class.

Read my first post. It will be based on Epsilon II.

Asides from a few changes in the interior (the backseat mostly from memory) and the engine displacement reduced to meet some chinese tax bracket on displacement.

This vehicle is not in that class.

Isn't it a similar sort of size though?

To be honest the only Buicks which have interested me that were wrought in my lifetime were the Grand Nationals and The B-Body Roadmaster. I'll just wait until Buick goes nuts and makes a supped up muscle car out of the blue again as they tend to do once in a while.
