PhyreFile support is live in version 1.1.6. Use the download link below.

:D I know I'm a hit and run FG poster, but so what.

I browse alot of forums and hotlinking other people's stuff seems to be a big problem. Either you a) steal their bandwidth, or b) your image is replaced with something potentially obscene.

Hotlinking and having porn or other nastyness is a bannable offense on some other forums I use, so I wrote a little Firefox extension to make it super-duper blindingly easy to mirror images to PhyreFile and imageshack.** and post them on forums without breaking a sweat. Literally all you have to do (once the extension is installed) is right click on the image you want to post and hit "Transload to (service)...". The extension goes to work in the background telling the hosting service to create a mirror of the image, and then once they're done mirroring it the extension places the link to the new location of the image on your clipboard, automatically. It happens quickly and without rendering any webpages or interrupting what you are doing, so it's worth a shot.

If nothing else I figured it could cut down on some bandwidth theft and potentially embarrassed users.

You can find it here:

And here's a quick screenshot of what it looks like in action:

If this is useful to you, enjoy! I'm happy to hear about bug reports, feedback, desired features, etc. If this is useless to you, sorry for wasting your time.

Yeah! Sounds epic. If you do it for any other pichoster than Imageshack, you're the man!

Looks like it uses the URL upload part.. if you wish to make it compatible with PhyreFile, send me a PM.

nice, now write one for phyrefile :)

D-Fence, I have PM'd Quiky about it. It sounds like it could happen today. :firefox:

I only chose imageshack because they have the friendliest interface for this sort of thing. It would be somewhat more painful and resource heavy to do this on other services because they expect you to upload a local copy, not point them to a URL of the resource.

Acknowledged. Still, if you manage to get it to work with Phyrefile, you'll make life for a lot of people around here much easier. And you'll get heaps of +rep!

He speaks the truth! Oh and you could add a basket option, like when you want to stea...hotlink like 5 images on the same page to upload them together...sort of... :)

And you can add in some unicorns!

Very nice idea there. I personally use Imagebot, which allows similar transloading (except they call it uploading...) but I'm sure it will be very useful to some people. +1 for putting the effort in. :)

 I tried ImageBot but it was a bit too contrived and indirect for my tastes. I like minimally invasive extensions that can take the number of steps of annoying processes down to one or two, hence I came up with this.

I've got a few difficult midterms coming up, after which I'll probably put some time into making the official version work with as many different photo hosts as possible, as well as customizing the clipboard automation (for example: allow the user to select which URL is used, wrap the URL in [img] tags, etc.)

works great! So how's the programming in terms of other image hosters going?

The programming is pretty much all in place for PhyreFile

Quiky has told me that Viper's work is nearly complete, so the new point release to enable PhyreFile should be coming out very soon.

Nice work man

I'm also open to adding flexibility, so if anyone has a suggestion for other image hosts worth investigating that have a transload feature, please let me know. The only stipulation (with this revision) is that they support transloading via a query string and do not require an account to host images.

That's a realy nice addon, thx for sharing :D

Is it posible to make a History over translocated pictures?

What a great addon!

Yes. Some kind of logging would be nice.

Yes, and thanks for the idea. I had mused a little bit about adding some history, but was unsure if people would use it. After I hear back from Quiky/Viper and release the PhyreFile version I'll work on an implementation to support a history of uploaded images. I think a FIFO 5-10 element stack will suffice... however in the theme of this extension I don't think I'll add thumbnail previews in the history since rendering them will increase the memory footprint of the extension quite a bit.

Yay! Only it would be great to see some sort of status and maybe not use the clipboard

Clipboard is ideal, and you can see the status of your current upload in the status bar of your browser.
