The Melbourne Meetup Thread - 14th of October > Yarra Valley and the Spurs

beign a little greedy yet again, any chance of a high resolution copy of some of those (we can make a torrent and i'll seed it for everyone (I have 1mbit up))

if you're collecting high-res versions of everyones pictures, I'll upload my set as well. Would you happen to have a webspace to collect it? I do have some space that I can setup, don't think I have much space though... at most 1gb (Considering a couple of people had SLR's and were taking 2mb-4mb pictures, 1gb wouldn't be enough). If someone else has more, it would be alot better :D

Andy good high res shots (I suspect alot will be double ups, shots taken within milliseconds of each other)

I'll setup a FTP when I get home from uni for people to dump em too (i'll use my cable internet for that because it's got better download and my adsl2+ to upload because thats got better upload :D)

dw

i have a website, ill be more than happy to host em

just put em in zip format or something and ill stick em up

(yes i too have uber internets (30mbps down, 1mbps up) from this Wednesday)

www.techtorque.net (see sidebar image/file hosting (i can make a gallery solely for this if wanted))

Those shots are actually dead simple to take with the right lens (a Canon lens needs Mode 2 image stabilisation). Here's one I took a while back in the La Trobe uni carpark...

true, thats if you have the right Camera gear! I only had my 2 year old compact digicam. The best I could do was John driving past, using a bit of experience. :p

the damage to my car has been quoted at $4,800 and over 2 weeks to repair, they still haven't been able to locate an rear bumber with the Xr add on, but the rest of it they have.

Im shocked at cost since i could go buy a mint ED xr for about 8 grand if i can find one.

Hmmmm ... sounds dodgy. Didnt look like $4000 worth of damage, unless they are charging $100/hr for labour, plus parts. I would expect them to write off the Ford with a quote like that. But then, yours is pretty mint from what I have seen. :)

SIMid and others, rear quarter panel on many aussie built cars is not removable, an ED is one of those...

To replace that rear quarter will involve very specialised cutting, welding, filling and smoothing... it's certainly beyond panel beating.

Also, the boot lip spoilers, if being priced as genuine (being insured by shannons, this could be the case) are very expensive, they can generally go for $150 in shithouse condition second hand, new would be more. Also there is the rear garnish which IIRC is slightly different (Different coloured stripe each side of the ford badge?) which are NLA so would be hard to find (or again, expensive if you find them) Then of course there's paint... and the spoiler is rubber so different than normal to paint, plus blending the C pillar, and driver side rear door, paint rear quarter, bumper, boot lid and probably blend left hand side also i'd imagine...

I can see how that adds up to $4000+ easily, the majority of the costs are in the quarter panel. I've cut one of these cars up with a gas axe to make it easier to move and I cut thru just under the C pillar, there are about 5 different layers of steel to do with the car's structure under there and by the looks of the fold just below the c-pillar cover on his car, some of that is probably also bent.

The value of, car is at $10,000 and we have been to this smash repairer before for mums car, and his got decent prices its about on par with most people around here but he does a really good job and his follow up service is really good. He used to me now i've been there 4 times in 2 weeks lol.

I wouldn't want to know what they would charge if it was like a European car. it pretty scary.

The guy from the insurance company is going to have a look at it on friday, i'd be so up set if its declared a right off, considering i can still drive it :S.

only positive if it is, is that i get to look at buying a new car, and i would have enough to look at an EL2 Xr8.

4800 is ridiculous

but thats what you get for having a ford

ahha try doing the same on your car and see what it costs... If it had been a door, or just the bootlid etc, he could have walked into a wreckers and picked up another.

I think you'd find yours would be more expensive - take my mx5 for example, none to be found in wreckers, new bonnet, headlight and bumper because of a tiny little dent and $2919 later....

Sorry squozen they were taken with my 24-70 (@ the long end) - no IS to help me, I just have to keep steady and cross fingers.

I'll start uploading the higher res versions of the images tonight.

 Call me old fashion, last I had a clutch done was to my old Gemini which was $150 fitted so yeah, if you explain it that way then yes, fair bit of work to do!

Yh i got my clutch done once cost $300 installed for a super heavy duty single plate. I was happy with that.

^ I don't want to know what a clutch swap in the MR2 would cost (it's probably on the way out too).

I've seen phrases like "engine-out job" and "$1,000" bandied about. Lucky I've got a mechanic brother-in-law I guess. Which reminds me, wonder if my engine mounts have left Japan yet...

Use to own a Calibra and in the club, some owners were paying $650 to $900 to replace them. Not cheap if any car that's not built locally.

Hope all goes smoothly for ya Bakis.
