Ask for restitution from the Insurance Company for the loss of value, cleaning and mechanical check/repairs - he got the car back and saved a large claim.

/EDIT I Hate people who do this sort of thing - lazy B'stards, get a job.

I'd like to think that if such a thing happened to one of us, we'd band together and be able to track the person down. Coruse this guy obviously wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.
 
Sometimes, you encounter some real dirtbags on the internet. People who are regarded as n00bs, trools, and the like. Thankfully it is a small percentage...maybe no more than 10%.

But mostly, And I fully believe this, you meet some really decent people who will help their internet friends for no gain whatsover, but for the sake of being a decent human being.

It seems that beyond.ca have some very decent, upstanding people on their board. Here too, as a matter of fact! :)
 
I think the same would happen here too, but with the added disadvantage that we're an international community, not just 1 city... :( Lower success rate, but 10 for effort?
 
/\ yup, but they could help, like that guy who "won" his nsx at poker (finding ip adresses and stuff or if it shows up on ebay) ...

the only thing i dislike about the owner of the car is that now, seeing what a huge succes the story is he desperately tries to make his firm known, instead of beeing thankfull of the people that helped

but i am curious about the reward he was talking about
