OMG guys: what have you done? Let me start by saying that the last series of Fifth Gear was fantastic; professionally produced, interesting, informative, highly credible and seriously entertaining, it absolutely kicked your competitor?s arse! (features on vans and caravans? Lame Parky style chats with z-listers; on a car programme? wake up BBC 2).
The studio setting, the exciting features and most importantly the lead presenters of Tiff, Vicky and Jason meant it rocked.
I?ve just watched the first episode of this series and sat for an hour, gob smacked at what I can only describe as a toe-curlingly bad, American comedy pilot set in a 50?s diner with a stale script and presenters devoid of chemistry. Why? The credibility has gone (Tim admitted he knows nothing about cars!) What?s wrong with Tiff and Vicky presenting?! I love Lovejoy: on Soccer a.m! It?s light-hearted, it?s laddish, it?s entertaining. Why suck the lifeblood of informative car journalism out of Fifth Gear just to try to compete with the Top Gear style banter? Believe me, you didn?t need to; the banter on Top Gear is the only thing keeping it alive, whilst last season?s Fifth Gear ticked every other box; including the light-heatedness. I mean Tom doesn?t take himself too seriously but he?s still a great car journalist and excellent addition to the team. Seriously, the show has gone from Auto Express does cars to Nuts Magazine does cars. From Nissan 350Z to Ssangyong Rodius...
This might sound harsh but please: lose Lovejoy and go back to the old format. Either that or suck in a deep breath and watch the ratings sink as low as the jibes from the T.V. critics.
Yours in hope and anticipation!
PS YOU THINK MY VIEWS ARE EXTREME? CHECK THIS OUT! MAXSON FOR PRIME MINISTER, THAT'S WHAT I SAY! LOL!!!
