Food! [The thread that started this section]

It was my first time, but I made them because of my little sister's birthday and she loves muffins

Translucent muffins with sprinkles? Were they tasty?

How does one make such translucent muffins and how is the texture like?

They're not really translucent, just shiny.

Stop spreading lies you German bacon, I want to know.

That's icing (lemon juice with powdered sugar)
like Royal icing without eggs

Oh, I remember decorating gingerbread cookies with that stuff when I was a kid. It was never that yellow though. I guess your just had lots of lemon and less sugar?

She's describing a glaze more than icing that you'd use on a gingerbread house. The eggs in the cupcake are providing most of the yellow. The glaze just gives it that translucent sheen you see on the top because it moistens the cake (sending all the yummy sugarly lemon-ness inside!) and makes a thin, shiny coating. The lemon blueberry muffins I posted a few pages back had the same kind of glaze on them.

It also looks like there may be sprinkles (jimmys) baked into the cake giving an optical illusion plus some of the color running off the top and spreading around. They look perfectly normal to me.

This seems to be the Food Random Thoughts thread, so...

As a lover of all things "burger" this gallery is pure pornography.

Only problem with these is that while there's a lot of great stuff around the burger, the patty themselves look pretty generic. For me, the best burger has to have a flavorful patty with lots of seasoning, none of that tasteless cardboard you get from the meat section of the supermarket.

This. The less I can dress up a burger, the better. Pickles and onion at most, maybe a tomato, but only if I feel like having one.

Probably because the site's tackling things from the cheese side of the coin instead of the burger side, which I can't exactly say I have a problem with. :D

^ This. It IS put on by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, afterall...plus I'm from Wisconsin, so... :p

While a tasty, well-seasoned beef patty is all good, I'm all for toppings, just like I am with Pizza. One of my favorites is a really rockin' cheese pizza that only a few places have mastered...but I loves me a good piled-high deep dish.

This is my favorite burger place:
http://www.thecounterburger.com/

My favorite combo:
Beef Burger
1/3 lb
English Muffin
Horseradish Cheddar
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Bacon
Fried Egg
(fried onion strings and sauteed mushrooms if someone else is buying)
Peppercorn Steak Sauce or the Roasted Garlic Aioli
with a side of Sweet Potato Fries, or the Hobo pack.

I do wish they offered more combination suggestions like they do at a Pizza place. Like...yeah, they offer one suggestion for each meat, but they should have a whole menu filled with things like "The Great White" "The Sears Tower" and "The Big Kahuna."

For instance, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with Apricot Glaze. Will that go well with beef? Is that best with the Chicken? And what other toppings go well with it?
