An extended part of one clue,

What helped made the car make a name for the company was the sucess in the European Touring Car Championship
 
Most successful ETCC car in the 70s was the BMW 3 litre CSL

1) One of the reasons it was developed was the success of a similar car of this manufacturer's parent company (at the time).

I can tell you one thing and the Crossfire is not produced anymore [last one rolled off the line in Dec. 07]

hmm. I thought that too, but I was just on the chrysler website, and it still lists the crossfire. And I did a build a new vehicle on cars.com, and it still lists the crossfire. Apparently its still being made or something.

1. It's been in production for over 10 years with minimal changes
2. It's 4 door with a hatchback
3. It's made in one of the larger countries (size wise) of Asia
