Disturbing Article about the future of Top Gear

Simply, if people are going to complain about noise and pollution give them an altermatum, the put up with Top Gear or everyone who loves Top Gear will go buy Monaro's and drive around in second gear at 6500RPM at 2am :D

Somehow i doubt that would really help the cause.

I wonder if any of you would like to add your names to a petition in order to save Top Gear by making a case for their license to be renewed? The people from the local area of Dunsfold are asking for the license NOT to be renewed because of 'noise pollution', which, as many of you have rightly said on here, is ridiculous seeing they chose to live by an airfield, which is by design, a noisy place!

There is already a petition here

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/SaveTopGear/

which got over 100 signatures in it's 1st 24 hours. We would be grateful for more signatures!

The licence which Top Gear have been granted for the next couple of weeks is only a temporary one! There is much campaigning still to be done!

Many thanks!

OK, shoot me for digging out an old thread, but I thought this was the best place to post the info which I have.

Now, don't read this as fact as it is just word of mouth at present, but I have been given a few hints about the proposed construction on the Dunsfold airfield.

The land owner has properly back tracked after having 'serious disagreements' with the contractors who want to build the housing development, and is reconsidering the sale. There may yet be hope that TG stay at Dunsfold for the time being!

I do hope they find somewhere which isn't 'subject to change' soon though.

What happens to this then?

Ummm, the mouth which the words come from is not available at the moment to check details with, but I think it is just the one landowner who owns the whole lot, so if he does back out, none of it will get redeveloped for the foreseeable future.

Please remeber this is word of mouth, I have no hard facts, YET!!!

Maybe if the BBC had the balls they could make this land owner a better offer if that is indeed the case. Plus, if they started doing more syndication they could make enough ad revenue to BUILD a track. This noise and pollution thing is ridiculous. Its been said, its just an effective platitude for getting a track shut down for NIMBY's. It makes no more noise than a motorway, and a sports car pollutes about as much as...oh 2 regular cars. Absurd. Out of hand. These greenies smoked some bad granola.

Those D*** Treehuggers

Environmentalists need to shut up and stop ruining all our fun. there's nothing wrong with having a little guiltless fun with the motor vehicle. sure, we should be building cars that get better gas mileage. but not if it means they don't have souls. surely they can give us Exctacy and Environmentally Friendly in one easily disolvable sopository. it's unfortunate that top gear has to deal with so much crap in those little euro villages from the environmentals, hardasses, and public transport provincialists.
If only they could relocate to america. noone ever gives me crap for driving my lifted Jeep... maybe they're afraid to. But, in a lot of midwestern states, few people seem to care. theyd have to stop making fun of us though. i can take a joke but some can't.

pollution?? it is an airfield, what about airplanes?? one car flying around the track cannot do as much noise or pollution.. that is just riddiculous.

Guys look when the article was published.

February 20, 2006.

We're a year past that, so I don't think we should worry about anything.

There is a lovely little unused airfield outside the town where i live. It apparently was an F1 track after the war, and saw the first sucess of Lotus...

Just kick all the sheep off and resurface a bit of it and there is a perfect track.

It's a bit of a tip but other than that it would be ideal, just take a lot of resurfacing.
The runway is in very poor condition. As you can see the grass has taken over quite a bit, it would give them a lot of area to play in however.

Dont worry for now. The next series in Oct will be at Dunsfold.

Would be good if they cam to Davistow, but there are a few setbacks with it...

1: My Uncle is a building contractor, and has been diggin a bit of it up for dun dun dun... Houses, but they are in the foresty area i think. Dunno if its true or not, but thats what my Nan said as she is his sister.

2: Weather, 364 days of the year its usually foggy.

3: Animals. There are wild horses i belive, aswell as farmers sheeps.

4: That thin Y shape going from left to right is a public road, wich is higher that the runways.

5: The military use it for training.

6: Its still a sort of working airport for Microlights.

Good points:

1: A Cheese Factory, food for the crew :p

2: The old buildings for the TG Production office.

3: Top Gear Dog could have fun with the sheeps :p

I have now heard that final planning permission wasn't granted, so Dunsfold is safe again, bizzarly, thanks to the NIMBYs who didn't want a housing estate near their mansions!!
