I Just Can't Throw ... Out

This might help. It started here last Tuesday.
Only thing I heard locally was in the next council area over they will do it for free. Unfortunately you have to prove residency to claim so we may have to wait for our city council to do it. We could call them to get a waste collection for free (they make you book them now instead of coming around on a specific date) but since you only get one call-out a year you have to make it worthwhile :p

Here in Ohio, we just leave them out in the alley behind the house. In just a few minutes, they're snatched up by people who collect scrap. I guess they take them and strip all the metals out of them.

Problem is if people do that here they're left with the rest of the TV to get rid of, which to do so legally is prohibitively expensive. I used to walk past a TV someone left on the street which didn't move for at least a month. Sofas are a different story. Put old sofas outside, before you get back down the drive they're already en route to the front garden of the nearest public housing building.
