What shouldn't I miss in Romania

For a while I've been planning for a while to grab Him Indoors and take a road trip round various bits of Europe, and after the latest top gear ep, I think Romania needs to be one of the places we go, so I'm wondering: what would you say are the must-see places? The trip will mostly be 'places Himself saw while being a truck driver' rather than the usual tourist traps, so I'm after places which perhaps aren't the ones that the tourist guides list.

Sighi?oara, the city which contains the only still-inhabited medieval fortified settlement in Europe.
The monasteries in Bucovina.
Cities like Timi?oara, Bra?ov, Cluj-Napoca ( ), Sibiu, and so on and so on.
Mountain "attractions": caves, waterfalls etc. There is a cave around here at Sc?ri?oara which contains a glacier, there are also lots of other interesting caves, gorges and mountain passes worth... erm... passing through.

To be honest, if you look properly, there is A LOT to see around here.

I'd expand that to the entire People's / Parliament Palace itself. Never been there, but I imagine it's a damn impressive building.

It may be helpful if you said when you plan to go, how long you want to stay and how you are planning to transit Europe.

Lots of peeps here from all across Europe, could give you suggestions on stuff to see on the way to Romania and give info on what?s good at what time of year, like the Stelvio & ?Trans-Rastafarian? mountain passes are closed until spring, etc.

If you know where to look and what to ignore, you can conclude we have a great country. As some say, shame it's let down by the people who live in it and/or run it. :lol:

well, as in any other city you visit, stay on the main streets (well light), ignore people that say "we make nice special price" and for god sakes, at the ATM if you see ANYONE with NEWSPAPERS behind you, get your card out quickly and leave, cops tend to look the other way at thefts.

i think i managed not to be racist on telling you what people to avoid to be safe.

If you do go, I do highly suggest seeing Peles Castle, Corvinilor Castle, Bran Castle, Sibiu, Shigishoara, and of course Transfagarasan!
