One wheel is done, another is currently drying, here are the results so far:
Damage/before sanding/jbwelding:
(notice the brake dust still in the corners of the wheels. This is why you should clean your god damned wheels once in a while, aluminum is porous, it WILL get embedded into the metal if you're not careful.

After some JB weld to fill the problem area's:

And finished:

This is now the worst looking part of the wheel:

what did you use to fill the scracthes ?

this wheels looks bent to me (left and upper right side)

if they truly are bent i hear there is somekind of press that can repair the wheel, but there is a possibility it can crack and then brake in the porcess

They look bent because thats where the curb rash was. The factory BMW "basket weaves" are notoriously soft aluminum (presumably so they will bend rather than break) when they hit the curb it crushed the lip in and flattened it.

They roll straight, I won't find out 100% until I toss them on the car though.

as far as what I used to fill the damage, JB Weld, get the paint off the damaged area's, file down the really bad damage, clean it, then apply JB weld. Let it dry for about a day then send it back down.

Is it just me or does that thing look awesome stripped down?
I'd leave it that way LOL.

While the car is out for paint, and I got the trim off, I figure it was time for some refurbing

And I "shadow lined" the chrome trim. No more chrome on my car (always made the car look a bit ghetto fabulous to me).

And here's what I'm using to do it all:

Oh and to anyone who says a miata is a horrible car for daily use:

thats my new e30 dashboard in the car. I got all my tools in the trunk as well.

Yay for shadowline!

Is the dash a refurb, junkyard pull or an OEM replica?

Junkyard, hell thats a pic from the yard.

I got really lucky too. I was at the local yard and ran into another enthusiast and he told me this mint one was at another yard. 15 mile drive + $18 later and it was mine

I love half price day at Pick-your-parts (especially since there are 7 in a 35 mile radius of my house :D )

edit: Another update

I may have secured the center caps for my wheels locally, I would LOVE to have them for when the wheels go on a freshly painted car. Also got new emblems on order. With any luck the car will be damn near unrecognizable when I'm finished. :bmwpoo:

that first image with the fan showing, add grill around it, flat blacked lights all around = TOO MUCH WIN

Wow, good find. How much of a pain were the wiring harnesses or is it just a snap in job?

Taking it out wasn't too bad, in the junkyard you don't care about damaging the shit you don't want, so the wiring was all cut, but there are just some very simple tie wraps that hold it all in place.

I'm not looking forward to putting it all back in really :(

Something like this sans chrome?

:dunno:

The third picture, on a black car, no badges... i'd have it

 My E30 just has no grille whatsoever. I always wondered what it would look like with hidden headlights.

Great job on your wheels and trim. The factory bottlecaps really are pathetically soft; I recently bent one beyond repair hitting a pothole at ~40mph.

Their softness is a good and bad thing. Bad obviously for that, but if they were harder, they'd either destroy your tire or break and leave you stranded.

Unfortunately it leave a huge amount of uselessly bent wheels running around the used market wasting peoples money.

Paint is on the car!

A lot of dust had gotten on it since it was painted, I should have retaken the pics AFTER they hit it with the duster:

Unfortunately there were some flaws, and I refused the car:

This is just the hood, I found some of these on the trunk as well. They are DEAD CENTER of the hood too. What you're seeing is bubbles in the paint from the bondo they used to fix a ding, all the spots the dust collected are the bubbles. It looked even worse when we wiped the dust off!

This shot is of the rear bumber, the old paint wasn't sanded properly here and they tried to just cover the flaking paint...

I'll be going back some time wednesday to check it out, I need to make sure I get a good look at it out in the sunlight before I accept it (always a good practice as you can't see a lot of flaws inside a shop under fluorescent light).

That's some fail right there, COME ON GARAGE PEOPLE.

Anyway, overall it's looking badass as it is :D
