Guess That Car game - By Clues Only

Clue No.4 gave it away! :)

Clue #1: This car was famous for its magnificient chassis due to its integral body and independent suspension.
Clue #2: It was built as saloon, convertible and coupe, although the last two only reached minor production figures compared to the saloon.

WTF since when was the Mini a saloon

Lancia Aurelia?

Nope, I'm looking for something older. (Should've chosen another car, the hints are clear but there might be a couple of cars that fit the criterias!)

Older than 1950's? Wow, I'll have to dig deep in the archive...

Since no one seems to be posting something new I'm going for it

Clue #1: Was thought to be a real competitor for the title in rallying but when the heat was on it couldn't take it
Clue #2: Cars from this manufacturer had previously been run by another team in rallying but now the Europeans stepped in

Nope

Was it a Group B car ? anyway here are some guesses

1. Porsche 959
2. Ford RS200
3. Lancia 037
4. BMW 3er Compact rally car
5. Some sort of MG rally car

is it fair to list almost "every" rally car made in the eighties...

edit second clue is a bit confusing..
does it mean that a euro car was run by a non euro team before. Or did the euros start to run a non euro car...?
