Today Tonight - an Australian based news program which specialises in overblowing every news story to scare the general public and create outrage has tonight come out and blamed the Top Gear for turning young drivers into "hoons"

The video can be seen here.

under the title of "Hoon Craze"

Here is an account from a different sensationalist media outlet

I did some research and you know what i found? People have been driving fast in cars since before top gear was even around. Hard to believe i know.

Today Tonight are a joke and everybody knows it.

They also shamelessly promote the interests of the 7 Network, which is why they have aired this just after Nine announced their launch date for TopGear.

Today Tonight=Epic Fail
A Current Affair=More Fail

Did the guy seriously think he was with a good chance of being a host of TGA?

ch9 didn't actually put any emphasis on the top gear link though...

the only showed the guy saying he wanted to be the stig for tg aus.

To me this is rendered nonsense purely by the name 'Today Tonight' which really smacks of lack of imagination, squared.

i believe a current affair broke the 'story', which is VERY strange as they (channel 9) now hold the rights to TG/TGA. The video is a audition tape for the Australian stig. ACA fails.

I believe that the guy doesn't even own the car any more, and it was filmed over 2 years ago.

Its not the first time ether (today tonight), in the video below, they got footage from a drifting video which was filmed in japan, and passed it off that it was in Australia.

Funny, I always thought reckless drivers were to blame for reckless drivers.

Who knew? :|

Not only Top Gear is the problem, but The Stig specifically. But on the dodgy pretenses that that baldy nannying halfwit claims Top Gear creates reckless driving and should be banned, so should all forms of televised motor racing. IT GLAMOURISES SPEED!!11!!1

As a number of posters have pointed out, it's part of the ongoing Seven vs Nein pissing contest between their respective 'current affairs' programs.

Had the rights to TG gone to Seven, I guarantee that that ACA would have been sinking the boot into TG.

look, just ask NBC here in the US, they feel that there is no place to promote fast driving and good friends for the same reasons, so, they killed it before it started. Ill blame TG for causing stupid people to drive like morons but thats it. the rest of the driving world is just fine. im glad we dont have to deal with those kinds of people on TV here...oh, wait...

OH MY GOD. NO ONE IS RIGHT IN THIS SITUATION! The police and 'worried citizens' are using a very easy scapegoat. It's on a god damn closed track! They don't even have one valid point. The hoons are so stupid, they couldn't rub two neutrons together. Of course you've all done something wrong, you've broken the road rules and the conditions of your license to drive a motor car.

It's like putting out a fire with gasoline. I WAS SCREAMING DURING THE WHOLE STORY

Oh. DONT FILM DRIFTING ON PUBLIC ROADS AND SEND IT TO FREEHAND EXPECTING A JOB! How fucking obvious is that?

What's next? Dexter inspiring the next generation of serial killers?

I'd laugh if it was one of the videos from YouTube that got posted in the TGA Audition thread on here a couple of years back. I remember at least 1 (maybe 2) videos showing some 'fully sick' driving. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's either the bloke with the old XB (?) Falcon, or that tryhard Shannon Noll lookalike.

Both those vids had some mild hooning, although Fully Sick XB Dude did a bit more.
