...because not everybody can afford Sam Adams Triple Bock.

Thinking about the "off-license" thread, and how many people here are beer connoisseurs (I'm in training ), I got to thinking: what's your country's cheap beer? You know, the disgusting cat piss that parties serve when they need something that can get you (preferably loose girls) drunk, fast, and for as little money as possible. The sort of thing that rednecks, chavs, eejits, wazzocks, and bogans guzzle down by the gallons.

What we have at our infamous college parties up in Syracuse is Keystone Light:

This picture makes it look more appealing than it actually is. A 30-rack is approx. $8, it's light which apparently makes a difference because I heard drunk girls talking about how they didn't want to drink too much and "gain weight", whatever that is, and as everybody at school here can attest to, it gets you crazy crunk, mad fast.

If we're really super desperate, we get Natty:

...which, after much delibration between me and my friends, self-proclaimed cheap beer experts, is somewhere between Keystone and drinking Scope mouthwash in utter, pathetic desperation. It's pretty awful.

The brands vary by regions in America, so what do you have in other countries?

Well, let's go back in time and pretend we're 16 again.

For the guys, there's good old EB (Emu Bitter). Awful, awful shite.

There's also Toohey's Extra Dry which is at least drinkable.

And for the ladies, good old Passion Pop. At $3 a bottle, you can't go wrong. Until you end up passed out in the toilets with your hand in the bowl.

To be drunk with one of these....

You guys must get the cheap passion pop. It costs at least $5 here in Adelaide

I don't drink either of these but my dad does.

Tesco Value Bitter. 89p for 4 cans. Suprisingly it is actually drinkable. Not exactly strong though, I don't think you could get drunk on it even if you wanted, it's only 2%.

This, however, tastes like cat piss.

The most popular cheap drink is probably Skol.

And for the tramps.

I agree with fbc. VB is awful. And lets add Crown to that list, its undrinkable.

(Australia's finest my arse! That crown goes to Coopers Pale Ale)

All beer is shit, although i'll concede that a Coopers Pale Ale is one of the better brands. I tried a Sol the other night (sorta like a cheap Corona) which I didn't mind. Everyone else hated it, so that shows just how much (or little) I know about beer!

I prefer Cider.

I don't think we have cheap beer in this country, do we? I mean I know we have bad beer but it's roughly the same price as decent beer, no?

I've never even heard of that stuff. How much is a six-pack?

The cheapest beer I buy is about $15 a six-pack. The most expensive would be around $20 - $25... You can buy fancy imported stuff but I think most of its higher cost comes from various import duties rather than from its quality.

I don't think we have anything like this:

I mean, that's home-brand beer! I've never seen such a thing!

This on the other hand:

The piss I take on Sunday morning has more alcohol in it than that.

best used with Edward Fortyhands.

Forty ounces of piss-swill at 8.1% ABV. Only college students and the homeless need apply.

Well, you never used to buy it in six packs, you'd buy it in a block of 30, and it costs around $33.99 on sale.

:jawdrop:

Store-brand beer...now I've truly seen everything. That looks fucking awful.

Sainsbury's, ASDA, M&S, Tesco and Waitrose all do one or more. The Sainsbury's lager one is OK IMHO.

John Smiths - it is not cheap and its shite.
