Family update:

Mom's cousin is out of the ICU, but now her 94-year-old aunt has it...anddddd got turned away from the hospital. I hate this place. Everything's slammed. COVID is just ripping through Mom's side of the family. :( Everybody seems to have it lately.

It feels like everybody bought into all the toxic doubt pushed or coddled by various leaders over this state and other so-called authorities they trusted to be honest and knowledgeable, but who weren't at all. Those are the charlatans who should be suffering in this, not a 94-year-old woman. The Greg Abbotts of the world have blood on their hands for pushing this stupid narrative about "fReEdOms" and "pErSoNaL cHoIcEs" over common-sense public health measures and actual care for one other. I hope my family members pull through, but as for the so-called leaders who led them to this point, I'm absolutely done.

I'm exhausted. Really hoping the FDA approval nudges more people into getting vaccinated, if not pushes more employers to require it. Someone noted the EXTENSIVE healthcare form NASCAR competitors have to fill out today, for one, and noted the irony that some folks claim it's an invasion to ask drivers for vax/test info. Really hoping others get the hint from the absolutely needless suffering as well.

Just exhausted.

Well, the article also points out that being vaxxed also reduces your risk of getting covid by some 80+% as an additional bonus.

So for vaxxed people it'll be like any seasonal cold: Maybe you get it, maybe you don't.
For un-vaxxed people it'll be more like: Maybe you end up in the ICU, maybe you don't.

EDIT: Also, for the record, Delta is not as contagious as chickenpox, no matter how many news outlets parrot it. r0 (how many people an infected person infects on average without interventions like vaccination or social distancing) for Delta is 6-ish, for chickenpox 10. Secondary attack rate (what share of close contacts gets infected on average) of Delta seems to be somewhere between 11 and 13 percent, for chickenpox it's 61% upwards.

FFS. I spent too much mental effort arguing with someone over "we have the vaccine now, screw you who don't get it" when, well, everyone's kids are the ones who can't get it. Same knob tried to argue that hospitals were fine and there's nothing to worry about because "we did this before, and they made more room!," so yeah. That is absolutely not the case here. Even if we can "make more beds," doctors and nurses don't appear out of thin air.

I'm starting to feel like I live in the dumbest place on earth. I know there are dumber places when I think about it, but good grief, there's a whole lot of stupid out there.
 
Doctors are striking in Florida over this, nurses are quitting by the dozen, and support techs, like Respiratory Therapists are also leaving. I talked to a guy last week who had worked something like 10 12-hour days in a row. He isn't allowed to take days off for the rest of the year - his solution is to quit and move to another field.

My company laughably gave us $100 to put towards company swag or a gift card as a "thank you" for dealing with this bullshit.

There is little to no legit medical reason to not being able to take all approved vaccines, except for being under 12. And this is to be changed soon.

Someone tested that by posting the chemical analysis of apples and such, and asking these idiots if they would consume these chemicals, but they were all scared of the big words, and began sprouting their conspiracy theories.

NSW got to 919 new cases today. I'm expecting 1000+ tomorrow, but it might only be a small jump to the high 900s.
We did, however, meet the Premier's target of 6 million vaccines administered in NSW before the end of the month. So they're now starting to talk about what restrictions will be eased first. Probably hairdressers.

Hopefully soon we'll have more info on how we move forward, and what those of us who are fully vaccinated can do as a result.

Sometimes, I wonder how people in a random group would react if you trolled them about the elements in table salt. You would of course have to get everyone who knows what an ion is on your side first, but after that… :evil:
