Cars your family has owned over the years

No, no, no. Someone is going to have to bust out the digital camera and bless us all with some good high-res pics.

Too much American muscle there to ignore. 8)

Don't worry, I've got 3 Shelbys booked for a day-long shoot this coming spring, but the GTX just got out of the paint shop yesterday so it'll be a while before she's done. Engine's been done for years, so that'll be easy, but the interior still has to be done. Not looking forward to that, TBH. I enjoy engine work far more than interior work, but it's all gotta get done somehow.

Also, we're not rich! My dad and I just restore Shelbys as a sort of weekend-business for fun, so it's natural we'd own one or two! My dad bought the GT350 back in 1977 when it was in poor shape, and the GTX a few years after that, so we certainly didn't buy them in today's crazy market. I wish I could afford to own one myself, but the crazy $300,000+ these things go for is just way too much for a student! That's more than my house is worth!

Holden Gemini TF (Dads - Written off)
Holden Astra N13 (Dads - Sold)
Holden Camira JB (Mums - Sold)
Holden Camira JE (Mine - Sold)
Holden Commadore VN Wagon (Mums - Sold)
Holden Kingswood HG (Mums - not sure what happened to that)
Chrysler Valient (Dads - Sold)
Nissan Pulsar N15 (Dads - Sold it back to his brother)
Toyota Corolla Sportivo (Dads current)
Nissan X-trail (Mums current)
Toyota Hilux Surf (My current)
Diahatsu Applause (Sisters current)

I think thats all of them that I can remember

Some of them are too young for me to remember, but anyway...
My dad:
- Ford Corcel
- WV Brasilia
- 3 different WV beetles
- Ford Escort
- Chevrolet Monza
- Chevrolet Kadett (80's model)
- Fiat Tipo
- Fiat Marea
- Fiat Brava
- Fiat Palio

My mom:
- Chevrolet Opala
- WV Gol
- Fiat Uno
- Another Fiat Uno
- Fiat Tipo

Mum's (from 1980 onwards, all automatics):
1970 Ford Cortina
1983 Toyota Corolla (bought new)
1984 Ford Falcon XE (upgraded because three kids wouldn't fit into a Corolla, 90-95)
1989 Ford Falcon EA wagon (95-02)
1999 Ford Laser (02-current, less need to carry us around)

She's happy with the Laser, and it's got 160,000km on it, and Mum'll probably own it until it's done 460,000km. Both Falcons were dual fuel, the first one was fine with it, the second one wasn't as good with it.

Dad's (I don't remember much pre 1990, so not all cars are included):
1976 Ford Cortina (with the 4.1L engine)
1971 Holden Premier (first one I remember, was blue and had a bench seat, I think it was a HG)
1978 Chrysler Sigma (90?-93, apparently it was quite thirsty, had the Astron engine, economy of a 6, power of a four)
1973 Toyota Corona RT81 (93-97, was the first car I ever drove)
1988 Nissan Pulsar (97-04, learnt to drive in it, was a top car, clocked up 300,000km before rust got to it)
1995 Ford Falcon (04-current)

There's plenty more cars than that (I think there was an XW Falcon, a '77 Celica and a number of others), but most were before I could remember. I liked the little Corona, and wanted it as my first car, but the thing was it was replaced in 1997, needed a fair bit of work, and I didn't turn 18 until 2002.

I don't even remember the Cortinas, but both my parents say that they thought the '76 one was an excellent car. I think Dad's planning to get a new car in a couple years (Subaru Forester's the likely choice, he'd consider a Suzuki Grand Vitara, but I reckon the fuel economy would be a turnoff).

And my aunts husband collects eastern european cars, old trucks and tractors. IIRC he had Lamborghini tractor at some point :)

1986 Mercedes 250TD (W124): Lasted for 18 years and 240000 Miles with ONE clutch and NEVER EVER broke down. The boot was absolutely huge, bigger than any estate you can buy today. Best car he ever had.

My list will trump you all!

Dad:
1977 Buick Piece O'Shit (regal)
1987 Dodge Piece O'Shit van (caravan)
1990 Plymouth Pile O'Shit van (same thing as above with shittier transmission)... it was a not so "Grand" Voyager.
1986 Dodge Daytona... not a complete pile of crap, rather surprising really.
1980's Heap of complete junk made designed by some Germans... VW Vanagon. <--this vehicle has sworn me off of VW's forever.
Various Toyota pick-ups
1987 Toyota ... it was white, and completely insignificant
1995 Honda Accord.

There is a glimmer of hope as at one point in time he's owned various Camaro's, a couple of '55 Chevy's (done up in the Gasser style) and a 1970 corvette

My mom:
Extremely long list ending in the destruction of each one.

Dad's cars :
A bit of everything in the 60/70's (Citro?ns, Peugeots, Datsuns, Fiats, Alfas, etc.) I can't remember those because I wasn't born ;-)

Mom's cars when she was still in Peru :
A 125cc bike :-D
VW Beetle
A Datsun of some sort
I don't know if she had something else.

In France since they are together :
Can't remember them all but I have the last ones !
Alfasud
Peugeot 205 GTI
Ford Sierra 2000
Ford Sierra Break
Ford Fiesta MK3
A couple of Ford Escort GT :)
A couple of Ford Focus (I learned how to drive on the last one :))
The current one is a 2007 Focus C-Max TDci, it is the first Diesel car they have :-(

My dad's first real car was a 1980 Ford Pinto which, as he put it, took the most abuse of any car he's ever owned to this day. That says a lot. Despite the beatings, it took him from New Hampshire to Las Vegas and back multiple times. Luckily he was never rear-ended. :|

He later bought an AMC Pacer which he owned for two weeks before his girlfriend of the time took it out and hit a motorcyclist, totaling the poor Pacer. The motorcycle rider somehow got out okay.

One of the cars that really stands out to me that he owned was a '94 Dodge Ram 350 Extended Van which had a 5.9l 350 V8 and, despite 1500 pounds of additional equipment used for his carpet cleaning business and being almost 20 feet long, would outrun most cars on the highway. Memories of driving to Florida at 110mph listening to truckers on the CB radio comment on how "He must be in a god-damn hurry to clean a carpet!" was always fun. CB radio was so incredibly powerful it would set off alarms in banks as we drove by. 2000 watt amp kept the rig loud and obnoxious. Drove the old girl to California and sold her there, I sure do miss it.

Imagine seeing that fly past you instead of a Civic or Audi RS4.
