I think they look attractive too, especially on the final years.

It seems that the BMW buyers didn't and have complained vociferously.

I'm not sure, I haven't heard anybody claiming the E60 to be ugly car since people got used to it. Especially in M-Sport trim it still looks great.

If people had liked it, you would think they would have continued with it or spread it to other models - if for no other reason than to reduce costs.

Instead it was the only one to get them. And the new one doesn't have them.

Well, at the time when E60 was launched BMW had pretty different looks in every single model. 7er was plain weird, 5er was 5er and 3er was mostly pretty plain boring without some options, like M Sport bumpers. Anyway, the cars were designed to have much more unique style than current generation, where all the main series seems to be exact copies from each other.

What? It was the best selling 5 series thus far and accounted for over 20% of BMW's sales, more than any 5 series to date. People don't buy cars they find hideous.
