I can only imagine what the designer was thinking:

Now, what can I do with the rear to make it distinctive? 2 lights is too plain, and if I go with 4 lights everyone will say that it looks like a Ferrari, or maybe a Corvette. Hmmm....
I know! I'll go with 22 taillights! Let's see Pininfarina or Bertone copy this!
