It was all run of the mill Top Gear. A fun review, a bit too long VW film, the Cool Wall with Richard up in the air and the Jay who actually was quite a lot more boring and not as quick as I thought that he might be. And then the Aston.
I just sat there and waited for the review to begin and was getting rather annoyed actually until I realized what was going on. At first I thought that this might be the end of Top Gear, but considering his mention of November during the news, I rather quickly skipped that idea.
Then I realized that it was more an homage to the really quick car, which existence is threatened by all the speed enforcement, three letter acronym control systems, eco boxes, the green lobby and a million other things. It is almost impossible driving fast or even enjoying driving today, without something interfering. That is sad, I agree with Clarkson completely.
People born mid 20th century got to live a motoring lifestyle that I never will get close to experience. At the same time, it'll only get worse, meaning that my children will probably never realize the sensation of driving fast, because for them it will not only be illegal, it will be impossible. I'm not saying that everyone should organize illegal street races, because that is just silly. But a bit of racing at the lights or blasting down a winding B-road.. Why shouldn't we?
I do not wish that this is the last episode of Top Gear. It might be after all, but I do not want it to be. I know that this is a bit of a wierd comparison but.. The moment that you realize that you are going to die you get that how-will-I-die-question that has been nibbling at the back of your mind answered. It is almost the same thing with this, I don't want Top Gear to end, because it has made me have so much fun.. But still, the whole show is just a bit.. Without the ingenuity that is once had and.. It would sort of answer that question, "How will Top Gear end?". And they would certainly go out with a bang.
No. I want Top Gear back this autumn.
Oh, yeah. The episode. I don't think that I have laughed as much as I did during the rest of the episodes plus that last film which was great. So.. 10/10 from me.
