REGINA - Have you ever gotten in your car, started driving and wondered what would happen if you just kept going?

Roy Locock knows. A year ago, the greying Brit ditched his life in England, hopped in his convertible sports car and hit the road with no route in mind. He's travelled across Europe and India, took a boat to Australia and then another to South America.

"Through the first half of the journey I used road maps, all the way up to Panama," he said.

"Then it became so expensive because the countries are so small and you can only get one map per country. I said what the hell, I can just travel north. If I can't find the next country, there's something wrong with my navigation."

On Wednesday, he landed in Regina.

"I enjoy my own company," he said of his solo journey. "On some of the long drives in the more desolate areas, you end up arguing with yourself. But I normally win."

People often seem jealous when he tells them what he's doing, but he says anyone can do the same. He said travelling around the world is no more expensive than staying at home in England and doing nothing.

"It's very much an adventure," he said. "That's really what I was looking for and it's certainly lived up to that. But I do enjoy the freedom of just pleasing myself day after day."
Old people are cool.

I fear his journey may be stopped in the US unless the car is more than 25 years old...

What car was he driving? Its an important question.

It's a convertible, which makes that man all the more awesome. But you're right, the type of car would be interesting.

I'd be extremely surprised if it was a convertible with Lucas electrics.

He stopped buying maps because they were too expensive? Surely his running costs (fuel, oil, wear and tear, etc) must be adding up to quite a small fortune by now?

I bet his heart almost stopped while driving through India

I'd love to do this in the MX5. Or maybe more realistically on an "adventure" motorcycle. Either way though, props to him for doing something we all want to do.

You don't even need an adventure bike, you can do this on your YBR too.
Link.

Yes, that guy rode around the world on a tiny 125cc bike. Oh, sure, it took him over 5 years, but what a story! :D

I'm still not entirely sure what happens when you drive a British car with British plates through other countries on the other side of the world. I would have thought he'd be stopped in the US, at least.

Regardless, this is awesome, although it would be infinitely more awesome to do with someone else.

wait, THAT ASSHAT DIDN'T DROVE THROUGH HONDURAS:p

How did he manage to go through central America without hitting Honduras?
