Having met and knowing some of the Samurai guys around, I would expect that person fully believed that that was the best and easiet way to get his Samurai through the mud (once he put full sized tractor tires and wheels on it of course)
A vast majority of the guys that have a Sammy do things the right way, but there are certainly a group of guys out there that will do just about anything to them. Seen some sketchy stuff, that being one of the worst. No idea if he actually ever finished that. Even the biggest bodge job guys cringe at the sight of that thing.
They definitely have a following though. There are guys on some of the Forums that literally own 30+ Samurais and have different projects going on with each one. They are great little cars with lots of character that will go places not many other vehicles will, with little modification.

If the paint wasn't glossy the car would be very Keith Moon! He had purpleish Rolls-Royce painted with house paint. Could that be the owners motivation?
