This is your first official look at the production Jaguar F-Type Coupe. And it's a first official look which proves that, erm, the F-Type Coupe has a roof. Which is good news, what with it being a coupe.

Despite this limited view, we are excited. So is Jaguar. "We've been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the F-Type convertible," says Jag design director Ian Callum, "but for me the purity of creating a sports coupe is a uniquely satisfying process. F-Type Coupe raises the bar yet again."

That's fightin' talk. We won't see the rest of the F-Coupe until its reveal at the Los Angeles show on November 19, but we already know plenty about the hardtop two-seater.

Like... engines. The C-X16 concept that previewed the production F-Type featured a 475bhp hybrid powertrain combining Jag's supercharged V6 and an electric motor driven by a battery mounted ahead of the rear axle.

But the production F-Coupe won't, at least initially, come with hybrid power. It'll launch with the same trio of petrol-gargling engines as the convertible: the 335bhp V6, 375bhp V6S and stonking V8S, good for 488bhp.

The coupe is the second wave in Jag's bid to out-911 the Porsche 911 with its F-Type range. This hardtop will, down the line, spawn a hardcore, lightweight ?GT3' version (though it's unlikely to be badged as such), probably featuring a bumped-up version of Jag's supercharged V6, and rather less in the way of interior.

It'll also eventually be treated to four-wheel drive, using the same driveline we'll see on Jag's upcoming ?baby saloon' 3-Series rival and the production C-X17. Using an electronic centre differential, it'll remain RWD in normal driving, with the diff pushing power to the front in slippery conditions.

But first comes the rear-drive F-Type Coupe. In our Scotland shoot-out back in May, the soft-top F-Type narrowly - narrowly - lost out to the Porsche Boxster. Can this hard-top match the brilliant Cayman?

I'd have one. (No I won't, I am not rich enough - rats). But wow anyway.

Oh, and stick your hybrid up your tail pipe.

i knew the new model F-Type was pretty when i saw one in the flesh but wow. I never was a fan of the looks before now, this hard top is absolutely pure sex, im in love.

Ill do it in Matte Black with a very dark Blue trim where the chrome is, maybe a red trim

Also, can you please put up a NSFW tag on this thread?

I will have one.

Some day.

Oh. Yes.

My..... precious!!

Oh yes... F-Type is hot as hell in roadster form, and I really prefer coup?s. Did a 400km road trip in V6S in the summer, not the best car in the world technically, but has a very lovely character. I can't wait to try out the coup? if I can.

Does this coupe have the sideways opening hatch, I wonder.
Ian Callum has already gone on record saying this feature will not remain for the production model due to concerns of the owners scratching the paint attempting to lift luggage deep in the hatch out and up.

That is sadly a mistake - it worked on the e-type all those years ago, and no German car manufacturer would contemplate such a thing - Jag would be adding to its USP.

Oh well pity, still a gorgeous looking car.

It just got real (pretty). And [FUCKING] nasty! Read (and eyeball) the pornography below.

Car and Driver said:
Rarely has Jaguar thrived as beautifully as it is under the stewardship of Indian conglomerate Tata?and the more-immediate leadership of a group of executives with an education from the best automakers in Germany. A stunning example of this is the new F-type coupe, which reminds us of a question posed by one of the Jag?s famous compatriots: ?Shall we shag now or shall we shag later?? Pardon us while we pick our collective jaws up off the floor.

While the F-type roadster is a natural choice for Jaguar customers, many of those who consider themselves ?serious drivers? will have held out for the coupe. Regardless of how sophisticated fabric tops have become, they are no match for the rigidity of a fully enclosed aluminum structure. The F-type roadster can hold its own on a racetrack, but it wouldn?t be our first choice?especially if presented with the option of a closed-roof variant.

The F-type coupe features a gently sloping, delicate roofline that we find sufficiently distinguished from the roadster?s notchback appearance?and far more seductive, too. This sultry silhouette dates back to the C-X16 concept that Jaguar debuted two years ago in Frankfurt, and the brand says that the production version brings the show car?s ?uncompromised design vision? to market. And that?s very nearly accurate, except for one minute detail that was compromised. The C-X16 featured a side-hinged rear window, a cue taken from the iconic E-type; the F-type coupe, however, features a traditional liftback rear opening. Chief designer Ian Callum told us that he wanted to keep the retro-inspired design, but the company was fearful of customers dragging luggage over the car?s sumptuous shoulders.

Unsurprisingly, the entry-level engine offerings mirror those of the roadster. There is a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 available in strengths of 340 and 380 horsepower, making 332 and 339 lb-ft of torque. And just as in the convertible, the coupe?s lineup is topped by a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8. However, as that mill serves in the F-type V-8 S and makes 495 horsepower and 460 lb-ft, output has been upped to 550 horses and 502 lb-ft for duty in the coupe, and the badge becomes F-type R. The base model runs from zero to 60 mph in a claimed 5.1 seconds and is governed at 161 mph, Jag says the S model manages 4.8 seconds to 60 and 171 mph, while the R is said to achieve 4.0 seconds and 186 mph. (The top speed of all three models is electronically limited.)

Both the V-6 and the V-8 powerplants offer unique and intoxicating symphonies, and both will back up to a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission?sources within Jag have told us that a stick will be available some time after launch. We hope it's true. The F-type R comes with a stiffer suspension, and both an electronic differential that controls a multi-plate clutch and a torque-vectoring system.

The 2015 Jaguar F-type coupe will go on sale next spring, and is priced to slot in at $4000 less than its open-top brethren. The base model starts at $65,895, the stronger V-6 S begins at $77,895, while the ultra-powerful R model rings in at $99,895. With such seductive sheetmetal, and pricing and performance roughly matching Porsche?s Cayman and 911 lineups, it would seem the Germans now have a genuine threat on their hands.

Just came back from the unveil. The reveal itself was definitely dramatic. There were celebrities! Designers! Really really ridiculously good-looking people! And some guy who yells at people for no particular reason!

It was definitely one of the coolest reveals I've seen lately. Also, along with those lofty performance specs it'll come with Torque Vectoring and Adaptive Dampers and ceramic brakes, and its unique wheels. I personally haven't been this excited about a new car since I was in 4th grade and the C5 Corvette showed up. New dream car? Possibly!

Here's the story at Autoweek.

About time that the Germans had a little competition in this market segment. Now Mr BMW/Mercedes/Audi what are you going to do about that?
