Official 2011 Formula 1 Pre-Season Thread

Torque by itself is a meaningless quantity. I produce more torque on my push bike than a sports bike, and yet the sports bike is much faster everywhere.

dont Big trucks push like 1000 torques but with a 500 hp engine? and they pull 40 tons.

Torque is meaningless because there is no time component involved, so you have no idea how much energy is being produced. There is a relationship between torque, rpm and power, but on it's own torque is meaningless, and my push bike example illustrates this.

Yes, torque is meaningless, those silly engine manufacturers just keep adding that number just to confuse us, damn them. It's a conspiracy, I tell you!!

^ Sounds like money changed hands.

I hope (Group) Lotus cars fails and fails fast.

Wait, so who's on Team Lotus's side?

Is David Hunt still on their side ???

The Lotus saga pisses me off. Commercialism at its best. Fuck Dany and Tony(he has to take some of the blame) with the power of a thousand suns.

Wait, I'm very confused. So the Team Lotus is the team that competed in 2010 and Group Lotus is the former Renault team that's also competing in 2011?

Chapman's opinion is irrelevant to the usage rights. Chapman didn't own it and has no rights to it, and a court will see it that way too.

Correct, but the Group Lotus name is merely attached to the Renault team. The Renault team remains the Renault team, only with Lotus as a sponsor just as Vodafone and Marlboro are to McLaren and Ferrari respectively. By all logic the cars should still be called Renaults as they are Renault chassis with Renault engines and other Renault designed parts. (To make it more confusing though, the Team Lotus cars who were Lotus Racing last year are now using Renault engines and Red Bull Renault parts).

Clear as mud. I look forward to seeing how Martin Brundle will tackle this from the commentary box. Hopefully with his usual no nonsense approach.

Exactly. As far as I'm concerned - and how I think most people think - nothing has changed. Renault is still just called Renault and Lotus is Lotus.

On another note...

'I'm not afraid of Vettel' - Alonso

Fernando Alonso has responded to comments that Luca di Montezemolo made earlier last week when he claimed Sebastian Vettel would one day drive for Ferrari.

"I'm not afraid of Vettel," he said. "Should he come to Ferrari one day it won't be a problem, I have nothing to say on the matter. I'm not afraid to face any team-mate, I've never feared any of them.

"None of my team-mates have ever finished a season with more points than I have, so I don't see why I should be afraid of anyone."

He added he was confident Ferrari would compete with Red Bull and McLaren in 2011. "I have no doubts that next year Ferrari will build the car that I want."

Yeah he's not afraid of Vettel alright, if they ever end up as teammates, they could engage in a whining over the radio competition and that would make us ALL afraid for our eardrums.

Whine whine whine.
