The Final Gear Wine Society

New guy chiming in...

I'm a very casual wine drinker but I've found a few that i really like. My current favorite is Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. I can't get enough of that stuff!

I also enjoy a little merlot or cabernet sauvignon every now and again. If fact, a couple of nights ago my wife and I went to a casino for dinner and a concert. I enjoyed a glass of the house cab with my creme brulet dessert. That might be a weird pairing but it worked for me.

The $600 I won was nice as well!

Um does anyone here know how much a bottle of 1978 Montrachet is worth?

Thanks in advance

How did you get in here? You're underage :p

Just because I can't drink wine doesn't mean I can't talk about it okay?

I should really use being stuck in the world's heartland of wine (Bordeaux) as an excuse to drink more...

if you need a better excuse say that your forum buddies implore you to drink as many wines from there as possible with full reviews of em. but Bordeaux is famously expensive

If you have to ask, you cannot afford it.

But if you must know, depending on the vineyard, it ranges from $300.00-10,000.00 USD.

Why?

personally, nothing beats a good $20-40 wine that goes well wih supper or dessert.

Why?

Because I found a bottle in my Dad's wine rack and wondered how much it was worth.

Does your Dad know you are going through his wine collection?

Does it matter?

Bloody Hell!! Why is it that I always have to explain my jokes on here? <_<

Surely your life isnt that devoid of amusement that you can't spot a saracastic/jokey comment amongst the others...

i could get you a professional quote if you give me some more info and a few pictures.

No need, already took it to a valuer, came in at 472.615 AUD

And also what about a two bottles of 700ml 1984 Hennessey X0 and 1987 Martell Cordon Bleu

Thanks in advance

PS. The reason I'm asking for these valuations is because, we are wanting to clear some things out and only keep the valuable stuff.

This is true. Bear in mind though that there is no shipping and into-US taxes here as I can buy it direct (I can literally cycle to some of the big Grand Cru cheateaux).

Having said that I am working through some of the cheaper stuff - the AOCs.

Also having said that, I was round at a French person's for dinner, and for the first time red wine made sense. I don't know whether it's because usually I don't drink wine with a meal, or if it was just the French hosts had matched the wine and the meal well (their freindly local wine shop helps with stuff like that), but it didn't taste like arse.

This calls for another bottle to be purchased and experimented with!
