Chevy billboards around Detroit

That should say "See we can actually make a good car, we sold it here and you idiots didn't buy it. Now the rest of the world gets it and you can't touch."

To be fair to the G8, it was launched in the middle of uncertainty around Pontiac. I think it actually sold pretty reasonably until the rumors started flying about Pontiac's demise. I think it sold out faster than the rest of the Pontiac line (Pursuits are still clogging up dealer lots).

Ok, that made me laugh.

Like 5 of those look like they could be legit, the rest is just photoshop. No Creative Director in his right mind would sign off on most of those, 12 words on outdoor print is ridiculous. May as well put Homer's Odyssey up there. I doubt any are real, and certainly not in this climate.

And no way anyone would put out an ad that calls girls cupholders, There would be massive backlash.

General Motors.

Seriously, do I need to say more?

I don;t think they are THAT stupid.

horribly ugly cars will not get you sued though.

No ad agency would waste their time mocking up ads like most of those.

^ Hell, I bet that Ford and VW paid for those and "leaked" them to the internet. They're funny and memorable - the fact that they were "banned" makes watching them that much more fun.

I notice that Ford and VW didn't try too hard to get them off YouTube or other sites.

Neither will that poodle skirt ad. It may be offensive, but it's not illegal and it's protected speech under the First Amendment.

When did offensiveness become grounds for a lawsuit?

Spectre made the best ones. Typical GM, living in the past, taking taxpayer money, so on, so forth and all that.

It's generally bad practice to piss off half your customer base. Along with that, fonts aren't consistent(and some blatantly a shitty photoshop font.) No pictures of the billboards, and like I said you no decent designer would ever use 12 words on an outdoor ad let alone any other medium.

A few are good, the rest are just obvious, amateur photoshops. I have a freind who works in Detroit gonna send him a few of these.

First one is good, second is not a real ad.

You knew this was coming.

Fine....I'm not exactly a fanboy, but I'll play along.

10 years of participation, 8 victories. Last time I checked, 8 is more than 7.

Now take your antiques with you, I believe the museum is that way ==>

Heh - Jaguar's been racing in Motorola Cup of late and doing quite well. I'd love to see them come back to LeMans, though.

Point is that some ad agencies (or some other sort of pros, as that was a very well-made ad, even if it was a spoof) did "waste time" on risky ads.

IIRC, the 1961 Corvette actually cost more than a 1961 E-Type.

Not exactly rarified.

Okay, you all knew this was coming.
I went into my library of Brooklands Road Test books and grabbed the volumes on Corvette and Jaguar E-Type.

Road & Track magazine tested both the Corvette and the E-Type in 1961. (The Corvette test appeared in the January '61 issue and the E-Type in the September '61 issue.)

List price of Corvette: $3872
List price of Jaguar: $5595

You could almost buy a new Ford Falcon for the difference in price between the two cars. Probably about a $15-20K difference in todays market.

(Oh and Spectre - lay off of the Pistons. Unless you want someone to post a picture of a Ford Maverick and talk about how crappy Mavericks are. :p)
