Ok, I'm sick and tired of this shit. Can anyone care to explain in simple terms just what the fuck is that healthcare bill all about. Simple enough to explain it to someone without them having any knowledge of how the U.S works whatsoever.
 
Curiosity killed the cat. Nah, just kidding. I just feel the need to know, besides, I've got relatives in the U.S and would like to know how it would affect them.

Essentially, the heart of the matter is that many people in the US think our healthcare system blows major goats because poor people have problems getting certain categories of treatment, and health insurance isn't compulsory [and they believe it should be]. Reality is that our healthcare system blows goats for many reasons, the very least of them being those two things.

The healthcare bill itself makes health insurance compulsory, makes available a theoretically low-cost insurance plan to poor people (which we already really had in two or three incarnations). It also includes (and spends much more page space addressing) several hundred million dollars worth of kickbacks to nearly every senator and congressman (in the form of totally not-healthcare-related civil works projects in their jurisdiction, tax breaks to companies they're invested in, government jobs brought to their area, other unrelated minor legal adjustments on their pet issues, etc. etc. etc.) so they'll vote for it without bothering to notice that it's rather ineffective at actually addressing healthcare-related problems. All this extra fluff also serves to bloat the document to unreadably large levels so the politicians themselves don't have time to read them, and instead rely on interns to give them the Cliff Notes. This gives them the illusion that the items in said cliff notes are actually very important, relevant things. Fairly standard huff and puff "big issue" American politics.

Nothing to worry about, unless you're one of the people on the top end who will get shafted in the name of helping the poor, or one of the poor who will still be shafted.


Protip: You can apply this same pattern to all "big issue" American political debates.

Sh*t! 3:30 in the morning here in France and I've just finished the Materials' report, due for today 10h. BUT, there's still another one to go... And there we go, second night in a row I don't get proper sleep time... (although at least yesterday it was for a muuuuuuuuuuch better reason!).

My future is starting to look very bleak...
My hopes for grad schools are almost crushed. My last hope is with Florida State University. All the rest rejected me, for reasons I don't quite understand...

I guess I'll have to start looking for a place to live and a job. I'm thinking about moving to Chicago...

Had a long chat with a friend of mine in the animation industry, a few days ago. He was bummd that CORE studios shut down, here in Toronto, so all the knowledge he gained using Side Effects Houdini has been in vain, and if he wants to stay in Toronto for Animation he has to learn Maya.

Your post just reminded me of that :p
