McLaren espionage hearing

I agree with HondaF1, I'd be happier, if Spyker won the constructors title than Ferrari. Maybe Ferrari's desperate to put a stamp on their cars that they won the constrctors title

Don't you see? the 100$ fine (150mil probable income loss) is another way of 2008 disqualification or atleast - resource reduction for Mclaren.

I wouldn't if i were Mclraren. Ferrari can always find some "extra" evidence, will make it 250mil$ :)))

?50million fine according to the sun

though i didnt quite get it, it said somethng about paying only ?25million + deduction of all constructors points so far and being disallowed to score any more, so Mclaren will come stone dead last in the constructors.

drivers are free to battle it out, which is great

You must have missed my last post, as it got stuck on the bottom of the last page. Basically it is a $100 mil/ ?50mil fine minus whatever their winnings would be with their current points, before deduction.

Hmm and things get more interesting I'm watching the 2nd Practice session on speed (David Hobbs is back by the way) and they just said according to their sources that Fernando was trying blackmail the team with whatever evidence he gave to the FIA into making him the number one driver. Peter Windsor said Alonso wanted not only to be designated the #1 driver he also wanted Louis suspended from the team and replaced with another driver.

I wonder what or rather who their source is it all sounds kind of fishy to me.

so what's all this I am hearing about Alonso trying to blackmail McLaren into making him the undisputed #1 in the team and even trying get Hamilton replaced?

There was a reason why Alonso wasnt in Belgium. Somethings up!

Um pretty sure he was and is still in Belgium. Paris on the other hand... :p

Grrr. I rushed that haha

Anyway,

Dennis-Alonso - all (very) quiet

Another fact to emerge from the FIA World Council in Paris on Thursday was that McLaren boss Ron Dennis and Fernando Alonso have not talked since the Hungarian Grand Prix, despite the fact that the Spaniard is battling to win the Drivers' World Championship for the team. This bizarre state of affairs reveals Alonso's dissatisfaction with the team and McLaren's unhappiness about what happened in Budapest.

In any logical world McLaren might want to see Lewis Hamilton win the World Championship but the team is committed to being fair to both drivers and in any case needs to avoid any suggestion that there was any interference in the title race, lest the FIA jump on McLaren once again.

However it does beg the question as to what will happen next year and while Alonso and his lawyers may be hoping to get out of McLaren and join Renault, that will not be easy to achieve (particularly if there is going to be an examination of Renault's alleged activities in relation to copying from McLaren) and it could well be that Alonso will have to spend 2008 sitting on the bench.

This is getting fucking ridiculous. Alonso needs to get off his high horse and Ron needs to lay down the law. I didn't pay much heed to all the Alonso quitting McLaren talk but I think it would be best for the sport if he did.

Memo to Ron.

Sack Alonso, he wont get a cent this year, so you've won races with a driver for free (almost). Then let him go back to Renault and watch him struggle again in a competitive, but not there, car.

Then Ron picks up Fisi for a pittance (not paying Alonso $15million a year or whatever will help that fine) who plays an able and reliable number 2 to Hamilton.....and given the McLaren's superiority Fisi would hopefully pass Alonso a few times.....oh the irony.

Ron would give Paffett a seat if Alonso went.

An easier to read pdf version can be found at the FIA website.

I'll read it tomorrow, too tired to read it now.

Now reading those exchanges between Rosa and Alonso I don't understand why McLaren wasn't DQ'ed from WDC.

edit: this might just be the end of Alonso's and Rosa's F1 careers. Not a good way to go.

edit2: something should be done about Alonso, him walking away like this is a joke.

WoW. Just WoW. I though it was about one document, which was intented to serve as a pass to get better job. Now i know, Stepney was givin info away, Mclaren were using (or atleast testing) it.

Their punishment is fair, if not "a little bit small" for this matter. Good time for Mclaren "defenders" to shut up & accept it.

Looks pretty damning, but I'm not sure if you can base a $100m fine on the number of communications, without knowing what the content of those may have been, which I suppose McLaren will attempt to appeal on. As far as anyone knows they were talking about the weather. I'm not saying that's likely, I'm saying you can't base a punishment of this magnitude on presumptions.
