Guess That Car game - By Clues Only

Fiat 500. The 1936 - 55 model, the aforementioned Topolino nickname literally translates to Little Mouse, which is the name for Mickey Mouse in Italy.
 
As i said before it's not the Topolino, and the 500 Nuova was never known as Topolino. Think something much more recent.
 
Previous clue plus another one:
1- While being developed it's project name was that of a cartoon.
2- That project name is also part of the name of a very famous aircraft.
 
^ Nope. And remember: i've been talking about the car's project name, not the car's name itself.
 
Nope. The aircraft in question is rather well known. And BTW, it's military.

Ok then:

2) The vehicle has carried many names over the years and I will accept any of them. It is also a major victim of badge engineering. However ALL names it has ever carried are now defunct in the U.S. market.
3) Available in 2- or 4-door hardtop, or 2-door softtop bodystyles.
 
By hardtop, do you mean it is removable?
 
Sorry for being unclear. The two-door could have a removable hard top. The 4 door did not.
