Every couple of years, I like to go somewhere by myself. It may be a bit odd, but, I enjoy being on my own time line and not having to worry about what others want. Usually, I've always stayed in the States. This time, I've decided I want to go abroad.

I've narrowed it down to two spots.

Australia or Japan.

I know, two very different places.

I will explain my choices.

Australia:

-No language barrier.
-I've always found it very beautiful.
-Melbourne looks like an amazing city to visit.
-Cable Beach
-Women with Australian accents are my weakness. <3

Japan:

-Always loved Japanese history.
-The mountain views in Northern Japan are amazing.
-Tokyo. What's more to say?
-Always promised myself I would go. Sort of a calling....

So, what do you all think? What are your thoughts? Out of the two, where would you go and why?

Well .. I'd go to Japan. :)

You must remember that Australia is very big, so you may not have time to travel to all the places you would like to. Melbourne, for instance, is at least 7 hours from Cable Beach (assuming you don't have long to wait for your connecting flight at Perth). If you get to Cable Beach in summer (and this goes for all the north) .. the water has a lot of stingers (jelly fish) in it. You are better to visit the (tropical) north in winter.

Well Japan.

I'd go there because I'm scared pantsless of Australia and you can get sweet stuff from Japan, not to mention Japan is much more of a change than Australia.

And no, being an obsessive anime nerd has nothing to do with my descicion.though I'd like to watch the KyoAni building before I die

Japan. Because I live in Australia.

Really, what sort of time and budget do you have? Lots of time and a small budget, probably Oz. To do a backpacker run is relatively cheap, join the Youth Hostels Association (no you don't have to be youth) and get cheap accommodation, albeit shared. Or do the hotel thing. You could start at Sydney and head south to Melbourne. Alternatively (or in addition to) do the East coast to up north, see Great Barrier Reef, Daintree, a thousand "Big" things - The Big Banana, The Big Pineapple etc, do the Ghan Train from Darwin to Adelaide (north to south right through the middle), and then turn right, head to Perth and travel the West coast. As GerFix said, travel time between places will be your biggest killer. Unless you're flying everywhere.

More money less time? Go to Japan.

I'd say Japan. It's more different. Plus it's an opportunity to learn a little of another language.

Of those two, I'd personally choose Australia.
Just a personal preference, on my part. Both places are on my to-visit list, but Australia is higher up.

Japan. Language barrier is a weak excuse. Using hand signals and crappy translation books are part of the fun. :p

Sais the Dutch person :p  I had one of you lot infront of me at Macdonalds once (yes I know).......trying to order a big mac and a childrens menu in handsignals and alot of 'sievoutplaits' , wich was amusing since this was in Flanders and therefore the girl behind the counter spoke perfect Dutch...... :p

Seriously though, that's a big spread there, I know wich one I would chose, but that's because Japanese people scare me.

Main question is what do you want out of your vacation? explore a foreign culture ? get lost in busy city's bristeling with an, I can imagine almost offworlds atmosphere?

Or do you want to take it a step slower with more natural beaty, wide open landscapes, some culture thrown in but one not all that different from yours?

That's all hilarious and stuff. However you're missing the real joke there, the fact that you share your country with them frenchies.

Now where do I collect my flawless victory prize? :p

Only the queen does not have an accent as it is her language, we just borrow it - i.e. "The Queen's English.' Imagine a cut glass crystal speaking English. Oh and I'd go to Japan - sushi, what's not to like?

Actualy we don't.......there is a cleary defined language border, our side/there side..... unfortunatly you lot don't ever seem to know were that border is :p (or wich country your in at the time for that matter) "istas diesen them gooten weg for keuylen?"

I have a theory on this actualy, based on personal experience: the larger the caravan, the less money they seem to have left for maps and satnavs ,let alone language courses, resulting in the above :p

If you want to see nature - Australia.

If you want to shop, eat and drink till you drop - Japan.

Not really directly comparable places IMO. I loved Japan when I was there, but Australia has a different set of charms.

I'd love to go to either one. I think I'd go with Japan though, if I had the money. Culture, language and food far removed from my own would keep things interesting.

 How do Japanese people scare you? Nearly every Japanese person I've ever met was so damned polite they made Canadians look like assholes.
