Simple enough, E46 M3 or NSX, which would you have?

I group them together because they are probably the best examples of n/a 6 cylinder production cars that can be reasonably affordable for most people.

Decide on whatever basis you deem appropriate. Could be practicality or value, or something as foolish as pure aural pleasure.

While I like both, I think my money would be undoubtedly thrown into the mid-engined pit know as the NSX. There is almost no better sound. I doubt I could be happier.

Audio clips from both (neither example stock)

As much as I love the M3, this was a hard decision. The M3 won out purely on the rear seats, that's how far down the list of things I got before one won over the other.

I'm going with the NSX, but it has to be the pre-facelift version. A M3 is always a hard core machine, a track tool, something mechanical and cool, but the NSX for me is a thing of beauty and just that little bit more special. Of course, there are plenty of track NSX:s, but an unmolested red NSX with a black roof and leather is more beautiful to me than any Ferrari made in the last 10 years, for example.

Chevy kind of ruined the look though :(

NSX is a purposeful mid engined supercar.

The M3 is just a modified 3-series.

I'd choose M3 simply because it's every day usage..

M3 > NSX

NSX is an overpriced "supercar", I'm voting for the M3 cos it's reasonably well priced, whereas the NSX is still pretty expensive.

this is exactly why I chose the NSX.

It's rarer than an M3, it sound better, and is just a better experience as a car because it doesn't have to do the school run.

Also, pop up headlamps FTMFW!

I see we're at 50/50 this may turn out to be an interesting thread

Pop-up lights model NSX for me too. I see an E46 M3 on every street corner, and as nice as they are I just prefer the NSX.

Actually a harder choice than i first thought.
They are both great but in different ways.
M3 would be a better daily driver, NSX is a a pretty unique beast and takes a lot of driving skill to get the best out of the chassis.

Have not voted yet, still undecided...

If this was NSX vs E46 CSL, it'd be easy. But damn, this is hard. M3 has usable rear seats, which is a big plus in my family situation, but the NSX is so insanely cool that almost nothing can beat it. I think it'll all come down to what I'll be using it for, the other cars I might own and the prices of the two compared to my budget. I think in the end the balance might swing towards the M3 beause of the better availability of aftermarket stuff for it over here. Although the rarity of the NSX also has its merits. See, I really can't decide this one.

Its a tough call but its the m3 for me. There's nothing quite like the howl of that bmw straight 6. And it has useable rear seats.

Tough choice, but the NSX is a rare supercar! That settles it for me.

The NSX has its own pretty mean howl. I'd actually go for a pre-facelift, post-engine update NSX-T.
