I MUST have more info on this. A Finnish mate of mine pointed these kind of diesels out to me a few years ago, IIRC they were called "superboost".
I dunno how they do it, but by boosting these diesel engines to insane amounts, and revving them VERY high (for diesels) they were able to make stupid power, while maintaining reliability.

I particularly love the huge black smoke from the back of the car when on boost...
the amount of want for a 190D with 400ish HP is very great
