Craigslist Boredom

I want a cheap project car that I can drive for a few years. Not a bottomless pit for money. :p

I wouldn't. I thought you said you didn't want a monetary black hole?

I am joking about the $500 Jaaaaaaaaaaaaag in a feild. I actually found a C4 Vette that I will be looking at. The only thing I don't like about it: automatic.

$500 is too much for a C4. Hell anything less than being given $500 is too much for a C4.

I wish it were only $500, but it was sold when I got there. The car looked really good and sounded pretty damn good too. The kid (25)that bought it will have fun with it.

Too much. $2000 is about the limit you should spend on one.

I'd put the limit more around $3000 (especially if you want extras like push bars and dual spotlights) but $4000 is WAAAAY too much to pay for one (even if it is an '07) - and even worse for a goddamn wrecked one.

I should know - I've been shopping for one lately. Also, "Hard to find" is outright fraudulant. I could fly to LA (where they are INCREDIBLY abundant and thus cheaper than the rest of the country), buy one, and drive one back to the east coast for less than $4000.

1976 Triumph TR7 - $850

I think it looks good for $850, but what kind of headaches will it bring? (not for me, for my neice)

or

1967 Triumph Spitfire - $2800

http://flint.craigslist.org/cto/1320371360.html It's a mark II not IV

This one is a bit outside her budget, but I think I can talk the guy down a bit(been on craiglist multiple times).

And for when she tires of the car, how much power(92&67stock) can I get out of these reliably? (she won't like the constant maintenance)

TR7s were crap. Buy one for your niece only if you hate her.

Spitfires are fine if you pitch the engine and put something else into it. The original engine was garbage and Toyota engine swaps are the order of the day for them. You can't even get stock power out of them reliably.

Yep. It will have a death axel on it, but the Spitfires weren't nearly as bad as others.

For engines your best bet is a Toyota 4A or a Suzuki. The former will provide more power (especially if you get the 20 valve). The Spitfire is body on frame so repairs to the body work shouldn't be super difficult.

This will lead to your ruination, but worth checking out.
