Random Thoughts....

School is definitely more work than well, work. You have to be on all of the time going to school, while going to work, you can turn your brain off at 5pm and leave it off until the next morning. This isn't with all jobs, but since mine is limited by the hours the courthouse is open, its great.

A lot of people must get busy in late October, because I have 6 friends whose birthday is tomorrow. :dunno:

Now that I have graduated college, got my first job and an apartment, I find myself to be stuck in a rut. Go to work, eat, drink, sleep. Every single, fucking day! I'm not going to lie - it's taking the life out of me.
Welcome... to the real world.

At least you have a boring routine to complain about :shakefist:

Thanks all for the advice. Other main reasons I am thinking of dropping it and picking up a different 2nd year course is because
a) there are "better" 2nd year courses to do in your first year (some programs actually recommend you doing them first year!)
b) The one I am dropping has a group work component that I would prefer to do with people I know (i.e. colleagues) as it is a huge component of your marks and you need to be able to meet up outside of uni (as opposed to the smaller group work components of other courses)
c) I just need a break from management theory courses- towards the end of my last one I just switched off because so many courses were bombarding me with the stuff. A semester of less "written" theories and more "maths" will be nice I think.
d) I was hoping to be on a similar path to a friend/coworker of mine who I will most likely going to be trying to keep a similar schedule to next year, but that is not likely to happen as her first semester timetable was way too different to mine.

So yeah, more things for dropping the course and swapping out to my other option than against (only things are the risk of the textbook changing and a slightly crappy timetable, but it was bad already and this way I will be able to drive more often too). Thanks again! :)

I'm having another stupid problem again (what is it with me and maths this term? probability should be easy and I don't know why I'm finding it so difficult)

A multiple choice test has four questions, each with 5 options. Only one of these options is correct, find the probability of getting at least 2 questions correct by chance
I know that it equals P(2Correct, 3Correct and 4Correct) and I know that the chance of getting 4 correct is 1/625 if that helps.

and sorry, I know I bring in my homework to FinalGear a lot, but I'm consistently amazed how you guys remember your maths and you guys are just too good help to pass up.

@HighVoltage: Most of my friends work freelance, moving from project to project. Apart from the film crew guys who live in their own weird world, there are also some graphic designers, a photographer and even an IT specialist.

The fun thing is while they definitely live closer to the college lifestyle than people with regular jobs, i think they work more hours while on a project.
Maybe it's not the academic community you're missing (otherwise you'd have gone to grad school first place) but the les threadmill-like challenge of working project-based, without a steady employment.

I see school like that too. Once I get out of the gates, I'm switched off and can't be bothered studying. I only do homework when needed. I haven't aimed myself to get a high score, since the courses I want to do don't rely on what you get at the end of the year, but more about the work you did over the year. In this case, I'm applying for a Diploma of Photoimaging at a few places (depending what they are like) so that means super folio to show them.

Depends what you do, if you do an operational type task then I agree with you. Otherwise it's near on impossible to "switch-off" as it were

If it helps you, the answer is 0.1808. As for how you get that, I'm having a brain fart atm and can't help you. (I worked that out using the binomial distribution formula).

PM me if/when you do.

I knew the answer already (back of the book) but still, thanks.

I'd like to learn all about the stock market, and people tell me the best way is through online stock market games. However, after some googling, I haven't found any that are really 100% good (i.e. needing me to pay to get all the benefits), while others need me to pay even to sign up.
Are there good free fantasy stock market games online that you can advise?

Thanks!

Thotmarket? It's not based on any real stock market, but it'll teach you the basics.

Is my answer at least correct? :p

Yes, yes it was

Unluckily for you, this becomes a counting problem. To do this is trivial if you study stats, and still trival although slightly less when you study discrete math.

This your table of all the counting. It is important that you fill out a similar table correctly and systimatically so you get the correct frequency for the number or total correct. once you have that it is pretty simple. You know that it is 1/5 chance to get a correct and 4/5 for an incorrect answer. So for example, to find the probability for getting exactly 2 correct is (0.2*0.2*0.8*0.8)*6. with that you should be able to understand it.

The one we used at school was the ASX Sharemarket Game. It was pretty useful to learn with, however I don't know how useful it will be for you as it offers a more Australian perspective with Australian companies, etc. etc., but it still lets you get the hang of it.

Jesus, I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, I thought it would've been ridiculous to have to write out all the combos. I don't understand why you x6 though.
