The Android thread

PlayerPro has presets and is what I use. I actually have a hard time believing Winamp will be able to best it, but only time will tell.

People who have tried various music apps: do any have a setting where you can hold the volume (or another) key for next track? Cyanogen's player had this and it's the only thing left I miss from that ROM.

IIRC, what stopped me from using PlayerPro was the fact that you can't fast forward or rewind by holding the next/previous track buttons. :/ If they added this, it would prob be perfect.

That requires root, I think. At least with stock roms you can't even change volume when the screen is off.

rickhamilton620: I use poweramp, which as of the last update has FF/FB with holding on the buttons, even in the lock widget. It also has an EQ with presets. It's not free, though.

Well, I have root, and the HTC player can change volume with the screen off....

Basically my goal is to be able to say "next track" without having to find the tiny-ass button onscreen wile driving.

The PowerAmp player's 4x4 lock screen widget has gestures over album art. So you just swipe horizontally to change track or vertically to change folders. Easier than finding the little button.

The stock player has gestures as well (not on lock screen, though that would be nice). The problem is, using the gesture goes to the next track in the playlist. Even if I have shuffle on, it just goes to the next track alphabetically. The next track button does not do this, it shuffles correctly.

So, as long as that does not happen, it's better than nothing, I'll check it out.

PowerAmp behaves properly in every way I can think of, aside form saving custom EQ settings. It can also change tracks with a double/triple tap of volume buttons when locked. Well, it has a setting for it, but my stupid phone won't do it, or change volume when locked.

Sound's like I'll have to give it a try, thanks. :D

$4.99 isn't bad at all...gotta go get google checkout set up for when the trial expires. :D

Yeah, give the trial a try. The full version is just an unlocker, which isn't accessible by anything other then the app itself (and application management), so it doesn't get in the way. Also a good way to prevent piracy. It's an independent dev, so it's well worth it.

Have you guys tried any apps which should be avoided? Particularly not because they suck but because they are notrorious for draining a lot of battery during idle as well.

Doesn't work here, but a quick google search gave me the answer, only available in the UK for now...

This is Android son! "Available only in UK" means "you can find it on the internet an hour after it's out and download it on your android phone".

Seriously though, here's a download of the .apk. If you enable third-party installing on the device you can use it no matter what country. Though the app isn't incredibly useful at this point.

Here's the download:

If that doesn't work here's more links on a forum:

Anyone try the Kongregate app? It was pulled from the market, but is on the Kongregate site.
Wondered if it was any good?

The app itself is mediocre, nothing special. The 300 games you can play with it vary. See for yourself. :p

Super sweet custom bootanimations!

Requires root.

I just tried one and it's the same... wtf? The existing one is just as complex and plays at 60 fps. :S

I tried those and it seems I previously managed to just half-root my phone...*sigh*
