Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

So, did you win? There was a bit of last minute bidding.

I like that BMW, what's up with the budges though?

I have to say I'm really liking the new Peugeot RCZ.

The design is good, but it seems like it would become a hairdresser car.

However, the sulfur found in much of the world's low quality gasoline caused some Nikasil cylinders to break down over time [1], causing costly engine failures.

Does that mean that this will be a bigger problem in America than in Germany (I remember reading somewhere that the Gasoline in America is of lower quality, but I may just be misremembering something)

Nikasil is not your friend.

The same protocols that apply to early Jaguar V8 cars apply to early BMW V8 cars - having one that's had the engine replaced is desirable.

Interestingly, Porsche has had (from what I've noticed) problems with Nikasil on their engines and AFAIK all of their water cooled engines have used it.

From what I've heard, any BMW still running now, regardless of alusil/nikasil bores, is going to be fine. The BMW's just needed to be warmed up from what I hear more than anything, and our fuel is no longer so full of sulfur to cause a problem.

This man speaks the truth.
