Awesome Thread... [Automotive Edition]

Epic license plate. I think our king needs one of those as well.

Actually the S70/1 in the M8 and the S70/2 in the F1 have pretty much nothing in common except name as Mclaren deemed the S70/1 too heavy and large for their car.

Any more info on this please? Seems interesting.

This is the coates rotary valve system. It is better than poppet valves in every way.

They say they are in talks with a major car manufacturer. We'll see. The coates valvetrains are used mainly on oil plattforms, where poppet valve engines wouldn't last very long. They also have less friction, consume less oil, have better cooling, produce less emissions and consume less fuel.

I hope F1 adopts these puppies soon. :)

They were never legal. But i hope they open up this part of the engines, because if they want to go green, this is it. Makes things so much simpler too. And cheaper.

They have "been in talks with major manufacturers" for longer than anyone on this forum has been alive. They've also been claiming there are 0 down sides for just as long. They have always had sealing issues with the design. Any time you have a sealing issue, you're going to have a fuel economy and emissions problem.

what car is that?

with the risk of being totally wrong, i say it's a 70s italian concept designed by bertone?
