BlaRo's Yammy Seca

And at this rate unless I pick up a cheapo dual setup from a wrecked Triumph Speed Triple, I'll probably go with the single headlight first.

Over here motorcycle stores sell a few aftermarket dual headlight sets, like this, or this. Have you checked if you couldn't get something similar where you live? :dunno:

Yeah, our bike stores sell them. They're usually around $140-200, though I haven't really checked. Aztec 8 also has some impressive kits.

But what's the fun in that? ;)

Anyway, I took the bike down to my mechanic today and he'll get back to me about the engine problems. He's pretty optimistic about it, especially considering I have >100psi compression across the board.

So yesterday I spent an hour and a half wrestling with a busted FZR600 at a salvage yard to rescue these.

A set of clip-ons I got for 20 bucks. They're rusted as hell, but I was able to sand off most of the rust and spray some aluminum Rustoleum on there:

Also, if you noticed the lower round sidecover was scratched, so I painted that, too:

Tomorrow I'll be removing the stock bars and installing these snazzy "new" clip-ons there. Should be exciting. Stay tuned.

Great finds Blaro! Amazing what a little rustoleum and a lot of elbow grease can do. What salvage yard did you go to for those? Being in Assachusetts myself, I have yet to come across a pick-and-pull moto junkyard.

Sky Cycle Salvage, Fitchburg, MA

They're located in an old mill warehouse that's on a main road but still kinda hard to find - not much signage, and it doesn't help that Fitchburg is the armpit of the Commonwealth. But the guy (I believe his name is Fred) is really kind and knowledgeable, and the amount of parts is staggering. To look for my set of clip-ons I had to filter through 8 decent-sized cardboard boxes, in a room full of gauges, lights, mirrors, wheel hubs, and other crap. There are a few crusty bikes available for picking through, and he'll lend you tools to help. Overall a damn good place for UJM bike parts.

They didn't have any PC800s in there, did they?

So I was home this weekend, and I was able to finish installing all this good stuff:

Installing the Vapor was pretty straightforward: the tach sensor wraps around any one of the spark plug wires 5 times, 10 if necessary. I wrapped it 7 times.

https://pic.armedcats.net/b/bl/blaro/2010/02/16/IMG_4173.jpg

Grounded it to the frame via a ring terminal at the horn. Test fired the motor, and the tach works.

The idiot lights were more of a pain. I cut the stock harness (probably a terrible idea) and matched them up to the four lights. Two turn signals, neutral and oil light, and all except the last one are currently working.

https://pic.armedcats.net/b/bl/blaro/2010/02/16/IMG_4174.jpg

I connected them via butt splices but the damn things kept on falling off - eventually I finally went out and bought a cheap soldering iron and attacked them, and now they're there to stay. Put some heat shrink on the wires and taped the shit out of them.

The headlight was pretty easy, and both lights work in parallel. It was a tight squeeze behind them.

The result:

(You can see the shitty broken old fairing in the back - maybe I'll set it on fire or something, for all the trouble it's caused)

Dead sexy.

Nice job BlaRo.

nothing as fun as cutting up a wiring harnass. it's the first thing i did when i got my banshee :D (who needs TORS, or brake lights, or a key? - only adds weight :p)

but indeed those splices suck! soldering FTW!

That's a mean looking Seca haha!

How do you like that little dashboard? Did you hook up all the sensors or just the speedometer and tach?

I hooked all of them up, there were three sensors for the engine temp (fits into the spark plug), tach and speedo. The only one I didn't get to yet is the power unit that draws from the bike battery.

That is awesome. Cannot wait to see the end result. Gonna leave it naked, monster style?
Quick question, your bike is 600cc, no?
Don't most big cc bikes come with dual front disc brakes?
Can you add on if you wish to?

My bike came with a single front disc. I could upgrade to dual discs (hell, I could do the same to my Honda CB550F), but right now for my purposes it does the job just fine. I still have the "luxury" of a rear disc.

With those headlights, it reminds me of The Dirt Bike Kid.

Looks awesome BlaRo! Those headlights are dead sexy.

Looking good. Also about to comment on the exhaust manifold, it's just begging to be swapped for a stainless steel one. :D

Atleast put some aluminium heat resistant paint on it, rust never looks good..

They look better in real life, I swear. :D I plan on getting some high-heat coating and sand out some of the rash from the cans, then wrap the headers in black.
