I just can't drive some boring, reliable, cheap car. Like my Bonneville. Oh no. :?
I originally bought this BMW just to flip it for a little money ... and continue driving the Bonneville (despite it being a total microcosm for GM's failure as a car manufacturer), but damn, even in its terrible condition it's so much fun.
Anyway, this is a 1984 BMW 325e. It's a 5 speed with a ludicrously high rear axle ratio (2.9:1 I think). At 75mph it turns 3,000rpm in 4th gear. Of course since it has the 2.7l "eta" engine it only spins to 5,000rpm, but it does make nearly 180lb.ft. of torque. Which is pretty noticeable in such a lightweight RWD car.
The chassis has 200k miles on it (feels like maybe 125k ) but the engine was rebuilt 5 years ago and has less than 10k miles on it. Problem is that this car has basically sat in a field for 10 years. It looks like it, smells like it and acts like it.
So I'm just cleaning it up and taking it one step at a time. I might paint it white, rip those hideous bumpers off and do something with the exhaust, but that's the extent of my plans right now. Oh and the front seats ... it needs new/reupholstered seats.
I know a lot of you guys probably know much more about E30s than me (not saying much) so by all means educate me. I want to get this car prepped for some entry level autocross and I'm on a pretty limited budget at the moment.
