Bing! made a "death map" of places you shouldn't go. http://www.bing.com/travel/content/search?q=Don't+Go+There:+Death-Map+places&FORM=RQTRAV

Yeah, that's an XTerra in the middle of the Rocky Mountains in the winter. Why you wouldn't want to see the Rockys in the winter baffles me, they are fantastically beautiful as long as you don't get killed by blizzards, avalanches, cold temperatures....

Putting the exclamation mark at the end made me think you made the map and just decided to start the post with 'Bing!'

I went to Galway last year, might explain my extra head.

The thing is that I'm an idiot and if someone tells me "you shouldn't go there because you might die" it just makes me want to go explore. I want to go to nuclear test sites and Chernobyl, drive the Highway of Death (the one in South America and the one in Russia), chase tornadoes and weather hurricanes, drive the Alcan Highway (once in the winter, once in the summer), and all kids of other stupid shit no sane person would ever try.

saw a Seat Bocanegra today. they've really screwed that one up, because it looks a ton better in pictures than in real life. the regular Ibiza, on the other hand, looks fantastic.

I am planning a trip to Chernobyl next year. Just hoping that the famous russian-quality buses don't break down in the middle of the zone.

I was in Ukraine in Feb (not in Chernobyl, sadly), and the buses i saw for tours were mainly retired W. European ones or new ones. There were some dodgy Chinese ones.

chernobyl seems an interesting place to visit. And IIRC in someplaces radiation has dropped to levels in which you get more radiation from eating a banana.

Here it would have shown 0.012. But some places are decent, yes. There are people living in the zone and eating fruit and vegetables growing there and they are still alive.

Well, according to VWs website, in Australia there is the choice of 5 colours, 2 interior trims, two body styles, two gearbox options, two wheel options, then other options like adaptive chassis control, bi-xenon headlights, dark tinted windows, about 3 different stereo/nav systems, reversing camera, parking sensors, electric seats, and a sunroof.

I'd only buy a car to order if there was nothing close to what I wanted in stock at a dealers, or there was a plethora of different options available. It would be an exciting experience, waiting for a car that is especially tailored for you, so I can see why someone would do it.

Hmm, a fair bit more options than here then. A few of those are simply unavailable, but the rest are either standard issue or part of packages which you'd want to order anyway (like if you want leather, you have to buy sunroof).

I was just curious, that's all. I don't have to look too far, my own dad's ordered a few cars from the factory so I know people are just different.

Any word on the number of extra arms, noses, ears, fingers or penises in said sector?

Not yet. But i suspect that the first tentacle porn movie with "normal" actors will come from Ukraine. :p

Is that a challenge? We need a "Where to send Dave to potentially die" thread. :p

On an unrelated note I posted this on another forum yesterday:

The Dolomite was on its own right a bad engine, slapping two of them together as in the Triumph V8 is proof enough that two wrongs don't make a right.

I must say I read that article yesterday and thought of you when I saw that XTerra in the picture!

85mph isn't driving like your house is on fire or the passenger is giving birth. Around here, in some areas it's just keeping up with the flow of traffic. 85 is also the maximum legal road speed in Texas.

Bear in mind the few cars I have experianced are a Proton Savvy (which felt very busy and loud at 60mph), a Nissan Micra (Which, granted, did sit at 70mph with 5 people in it) and my Dad's cars that have all been large diesels (They all seem content at 85mph!).
But out of the cars I can afford I'd not want to take them much over 70mph if I could help it, for one thing 70 is the speed limit and I'd not risk it!

Also the only two cars I've ever seriously considered buying are a 1972 Triumph Toledo 1.3, with a top speed of around 90mph and a 1980s Reliant Rialto 3-wheeler... :p The 1st might get to 85mph but it wouldn't like it and the Reliant would kill me long before it achieved 65!

I'd want to do all those things... but to make things more interesting I'd like to do them all in a badly suited/equiped vehicle. :p

FTFY. :p

Maybe if you looked at other cars that weren't complete and utter s**t (which is the definition of almost all BL product in the 70s), you might understand why we'd want to drive faster than a snail's pace. :D

I love the parabolic mirroring effect curved concrete sound walls have on police radar and how said effect enhances the range and effectiveness of my radar detector.

To the Lincoln Navigator that rode up my tailpipe before roaring past me and getting pulled over by the cop I knew was hiding around the corner: :tease:

Even my car is faster than those, I've got it up to 104 :lmao:

You will still need get a daily driver to use as a car, one of the usual suspects currently suitable for new drivers, like a Corsa, Clio or whatever.

If you are a good auto electrician and mechanic, then your classic choices may be fine once every three months to go to British Leyland or Reliant Owners Club events .
(or MMOC :p)

The intervening weeks will be spent keeping them going.
